HUNDLEBY, Mona Grace

July 11, 1918 to November 02, 2007

Whether it was with her family, her friends, or people she didn’t even know, Mona dedicated her life to helping others. As she passed from this life to join her beloved husband Roy her words were, “I’ve talked to God and told him he can put me to work as soon as I get there. I’m sure there are people in Heaven who need help.” Mona is survived by her daughter Pat McClung (Murray), son Glenn (Marilyn), her sister Norma Fitzsimmons, grandchildren Peter, Beth and Britt, and five great grandchildren. Her husband Roy, her parents and younger brother Donny all predeceased her. The eldest child of Victoria pioneers, Doris and Fred Emery, Mona grew up on Gladstone Ave. and lived in Victoria her entire life. She and her husband Roy built two homes on Doncaster and McRae Avenues, where they enjoyed bringing up their family. In retirement, they divided their time between a waterfront home which Roy built in East Sooke and their winter home in Palm Springs, before finally settling for 12 years at Harbourside on Victoria’s inner harbour. Mona was a resident of The Lodge at Broadmead over the past 3 years. In earlier years, she was an active member of Belmont United Church, where many will remember her as a CGIT leader, Sunday school teacher and Young Peoples leader. Together with Roy, she founded Victoria’s first counselling centre during the 1960’s. The Citizens’ Counselling Centre of Greater Victoria is still thriving some forty years later, a testament to the solid foundation laid by Mona Hundleby, the Centre’s first Coordinator. After “retiring” from the Counselling Centre the couple received a Provincial Government grant to work with other B.C. communities to teach and encourage them to offer similar services. In the 1990’s they volunteered and led groups at the Fairfield Seniors Centre. Mona and Roy were great travelers, and began cruising in 1967. From then until their last cruise to Alaska in 2004 they logged more than 2
