April 23, 1922 to September 15, 2008

Jean left Calgary as a teenager and came to Victoria where she met and married Leonard Wakeman and became one the first women to drive in Victoria complete with a chauffeur’s license. Jean enjoyed a colourful and full life with Len, their many friends and relatives, their children — Vern, Pete and Leona (Gerry Mounce) and later Brian Rimmer — Her passions included animals, her garden, nutrition, sewing and horses. In 1970 they settled on their farm on the hill they rode, raised and trained horses.. A CLASSY LADY with a determined nature, who loved to get dressed up for any occasion, enjoyed shopping and a good party. After Len died in 1987, she took on the roll of Nana to Richard, Michael, Bradley and Critter. 86 years young, Jean leaves her children, 6 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, extended family and friends, her dog and cats. Nana Jean will be missed but never forgotten.

The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Winsby, Sharon Dash and all the wonderful staff at Victoria Hospice for bringing comfort to her departure with Teak by her side.

A memorial service will be held at McCall’s Floral Chapel, Johnson at Vancouver Street on Monday, October 6, 2008 at 2:00 pm

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria Hospice or the charity of your choice.
