September 20th, 1924- January 23rd, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother suddenly in Victoria General hospital, with family at her side, after a brief illness at the age of 88years.

Nancy was born in the small town of Treherbert in the Rhondda Valley, South Wales to William and Anne Morris.  The youngest of nine children (all predeceasing her), she always had plenty of stories about what it was like growing up in the valleys and being part of a large family. During World War II, at the age of seventeen she was sent to London to work with the Canadian Troops and her stories were always full of life even though she lived through the terrible bombings of London.  In 1970, Nancy moved to Canada with her two daughters to marry the Canadian Soldier she had been engaged to during the war. It was a true love story, he was wounded and shipped back to Canada, the war ended and everyone moved around and they lost track of one another only to find each other 23years later. They married finally in 1970, but unfortunately her husband, George Cruickshank, passed away in 1973 of cancer. Thankfully they managed to have three very happy years together. In 1989 she was very fortunate to marry another wonderful man, Keith Cain in Kamloops and they had 18 wonderful years together until his passing in 2007. In 2008, Nancy moved to Victoria to be close to family and spent her last five years making many new friends.

Nancy always had a smile for anyone she met and had a wonderful sense of humour right up to the last trip to the hospital. She made the most of life, would help anyone she could and made many, many wonderful friends along the way.

Nancy is survived by her daughters Karin Rumpel and Gaynor Hatter; Grandchildren, Brad (Heather), Scott (Tasha), Shaun, Andrea, Michelle (Steven), Michael and Christopher; Great-Grandchildren, Mersades, Parkes, Elisha, Aria, Zoe and Brooklyn. She will be truly missed by all her family and friends.

Despite a long standing illness with Dementia, Nancy was able to live a happy, independent life right to the end due to family, the special Beacon Staff and Stephen and Greg of Westshore Lodge where she had an apartment that she loved. Our heartfelt thanks to you!!

Cremation has taken place and a memorial tea is being held at Westshore Lodge, 1828 Island Hwy in Colwood on Wednesday February 6th at 2pm.

Nancy’s remains will be taken to Wales to be laid to rest with her family.
