August 1, 1970 – January 16, 2012
“Gone too soon”

It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our dear sweet Nicole in Hospice on January 16th.  She fought an amazing, inspirational and courageous battle against her cancer and stayed positive until the end.  She touched so many lives and hearts in her short  time with us.  She leaves behind her soulmate, best friend and loving husband, Scott and her two beautiful daughters, Brooke and Jada.  Also grieving her loss is her mother and father, Carole and Tony Chartier; her in-laws, Norm and Betty Thomson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Colleen Moore and Steve Thomson and Donna and Dean Thomson.  There are many aunts, uncles and cousins that will miss her greatly.  Nicole was born and raised on the mainland. For the past 17 years, she has worked for Dr. Bill Stankoven at the Mayfair Dental Centre.  She loved her job and her second family as she referred to Dr. Bill and her fellow workers.  We must thank all of the wonderful friends that supported our family with love, hugs and food during this time.  A very special thank you to Claire McCutcheon, Karen and Warren Wright, Rob Heppell, Dr. Bill and Lorna Stankoven and to Mark Crisp, plus all of Scott’s fellow firefighters that have been there for him every step of the way, Dr. Elizabeth Grant, Dr. Christine Jones, CRD Nurse Stephanie Steele and  Hospice Doctors and Nurses.  Bless you all.  We have wonderful memories to cherish forever and know that she will be with us each and every day.  Her faith, hope, loving personality and beautiful smile will be treasured by us all.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Lambrick Park Church, 1780 Feltham Rd., Victoria, BC.  ln lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Nicole may be made to  “Ride to Conquer Cancer – Team Nic” online at www.RememberNic.com/donate or to the Victoria Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation, 1510 Fort St., Victoria, BC, V8S 5J2.  Condolences may be offered to the family below:

  • Minna and Wayne Aitken

An image of Nicole that will stay with us forever, is of her hurrying across the street with a big smile to have a chat with us. Although coping with the effects of her first chemotherapy and facing an uncertain future Nicole was obviously enjoying being out with family and friends on a sunny day.
The life lesson Nicole demonstrated that day was impossible for us to ignore.
We pray that each of her family members with be able to find joy even while grieving for Nicole.
