Oz passed away peacefully after years of living with Alzheimer’s. Oz grew up in Moose Jaw, SK, until he joined the navy on his 17th birthday.  He spent three years escorting convoys across the Atlantic as an ASDIC operator on the corvette HMCS Orillia.

After his war service, Oz had a successful and satisfying career with the Corrections Branch of BC in the field of Probation, retiring in 1988 to care for his first wife Verna.

Oz was active in his church and enjoyed singing in the choir.  He and his second wife Lucille had several seasons of fun singing on Let’s Sing Again.  Golfing and travelling were great hobbies, and he enjoyed being part of Probus and the Broadmead Men’s Coffee Club.

Oz dealt with his illness for 16 years with acceptance, courage and humour.  His love for his family was evident to the very end and he will be missed by everyone.

Oz was predeceased by his first wife Verna.  He leaves his children Deb (Ken) and Steve; grandchildren Ryan (Donna) and Erin (Ben).  Also mourning his loss, his wife Lucille, step-children Carolyn, Steve (Denise), Colleen (Kerry); and grandchildren Brennan (Heather), Leland, Sarah, Sophia, Daniel, Lauren, Kelsey, and Ben.

Thanks to Dr. P. Kelly and the staff on A2 at Broadmead Care Centre for their loving care of Oz and Lucille.

In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Victoria John Howard Society or Broadmead Care Centre.

A Memorial Service with a reception to follow will be held on Wednesday, April 25th, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.

    Dear Lucille, Deb & Steve
Oz was unique! He was also a devoted husband and father, a loyal friend, a penetrating questioner as well as very careful listener, and above all, a real gentleman. We share your sense of loss in his passing, but trust you will be comforted by the certainty that we will all sit with him again in heaven and hear that hearty laugh (and some of those atrocious jokes) without any thought of ever being separated again. May God give you His peace that defies description in this painful time, and fill you with a fresh awareness of heaven. Much love, David & Rachel

Dear Steve, Deb, Lucille and family
It has been many years since we visited with uncle Ozzie. I think the last time was at my parents, Don and Esther, in Cannington. My remembrance is of a fun loving tease! I’m sorry for your loss but so thankful that he has gone home to his Lord. Praying for God’s care and comfort for you in these tough days.

    Lucille, Deb and Steve:

We share your loss, and rejoice with you in his gain! Oz was a very special person to me as a child and young person, and to both of us after we married. He was always encouraging and fun to be around, and we will miss him. I am so glad that I had that time with him, and you Lucille, last summer..

We know that you will experience the presence and blessing of God at his time.

Dear Lucille, Steve, Deb and Ken,
We too mourn the passing of Uncle Ozzie. He was always a favorite uncle who was always there. He will be missed. Nonetheless, we are very thankful to know that we will see him, Aunt Verna and so many others someday soon, and that their suffering on earth is finished forever.
Our condolences and prayers are with all who remain, and we grieve with you. Christ is our hope and comfort in these days.
    Bless you.
    Merv and Blanche

Dear Steve and Debbie and Lucille,

I will be a mess when it is my turn to say a final earthly goodbye to my parents. Your Dad has been thru life and lived it well. I remember him as being a knowledgeable man and having a sense of humor. I enjoyed the times I talked with him. He was a good man.
I will keep you in my prayers in the weeks to follow as you deal with your loss.
    Love you old friends.

    Linda Knelsen
