March 27, 1929 – March 6, 2011

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia following a courageous and long battle against a debilitating skeleto-muscular disorder; she died peacefully at home in the presence of her husband and sister-in-law. Pat was born in Malta, raised in Liverpool and predeceased by her parents, Mary and John Riley. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Keith Walker; her children, Mark, Fiona and Clare and her beloved grandchildren, Josephine, Isabelle, Argyll, (Mark), James, Adam, (Fiona) and sister-in law, Monica. Patricia was educated in England and graduated from the Liverpool College of Art in dress design, she worked in many different organizations and will be missed by her many friends in the UK. She married in 1958 and travelled to Canada with her husband in October of that year as a military wife in the RCAF. She returned with her husband to England and supported him at
home whilst he undertook postgraduate studies. ln 1970 they returned to Edmonton to practice at the University of Alberta Hospital. In 1990 they were attracted to Victoria and Pat was involved greatly in volunteer work where she became President of the Women’s Auxiliary and spent many hours with the Edmonton Festival of Trees. Patricia was a devoted mother to her children and loved to have her grandchildren around although, because of her disability was unable to participate as much as she would have liked. A further love was her dogs and Bassets were her favourite although she became attached to any “Mutt” as long as it was a loving animal. Pat enjoyed travel and her great joy was the Devon thatched cottage which, unfortunately over the past few years, she was unable to visit. She will be remembered for her love and compassion for her family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. David Bell for his care of Pat over the later years and also the great care administered by the workers of Nurse Next Door, Linda, Xennia, Valerie and those from Beacon Home Care Services, all of whom provided such compassionate care and support. During the final hours the assistance and professional care given by the palliative care team of the Victoria Hospice was greatly appreciated by the immediate family.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson and Vancouver Streets on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow in McCall’s Family Centre. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Victoria Hospice. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

To Dr. Walker, Fiona, Clare, Mark and Monica:

We are still in shock to have heard about Pats’ passing. She is sadly missed. She was an extremely strong lady, mentally emotionally and physically. When Dad died Pat was there for Mom. I remember this so clearly. She went out of her way to see that Mom was kept busy. She had a great sense of humor and a roaring laugh to match. She always spoke to me when I was present and she made me feel special, when it was she that was the special one.

    God Bless

  • THE BRIMBLE FAMILY

Deepest sympathies to Keith and family from the Brimbles in UK, John, Steven, Eudene, Chris and Nigel (Chaffey), Lorna and Martin. Auntie Pat was like a sister to our father John’s late wife Jean (Collingwood) Brimble and will always be fondly remembered by us all.
Mum and Dad always looked forward to Pat and Keith’s visits to the UK, sadly Jean never got to Canada to visit them. However, in 2004 Dad, Steven and Eudene were able to visit Pat and Keith whilst on a trip to the USA and Canada, spending the the day with them and being made very welcome.
A very lovely lady has left us and our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

JoAnne and I would like to express our sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to Dr.Keith Walker and family on the passing of Pat. I had occasion to work with Dr.Walker at the UofA Hospitals for many years. During that time whenever Pat came to see Dr.Walker, she always made a point to drop into my office to chat. It was very kind and generous of her to stop and ask about my family and share info about hers. God bless you with the peace and comfort needed at this time and in the future. Our prayers are with you. Len & JoAnne Seredynski
