August 3, 1924 – November 1, 2011

Peter is survived by Ann, his wife; daughters Nicola (Jim) and Diana (Brian); four grandchildren Ben (Julie), Anna, Emma, and Molly; and one great-granddaughter Marina.

Peter was born in Bournemouth, England. As a youth he enjoyed cricket and field hockey, and was still playing tennis in his 80’s. He served in India in the British Army in the Second World War and developed a strong bond with the country and its people.

Peter completed his petroleum engineering degree at the University of Birmingham in 1952. Peter and Ann immigrated with their first child to Canada in 1953, where Peter worked in the oil business in Alberta until 1963, when the family moved to Saskatoon where he studied theology at Emmanuel College.

He served as Anglican Priest at parishes in Stettler and Calgary in Alberta, and on Salt Spring Island, Victoria, and Campbell River. Peter was a real people-person, he touched many lives.

Peter and Ann retired to Salt Spring Island and later moved to The Orchard in Cadboro Bay, Victoria, where he again became involved with St. George’s parish.

Grateful thanks to the staff at Oak Bay Lodge for Peter’s care over the last fifteen months.

Peter’s memorial service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 3909 St. Georges Lane in Cadboro Bay, Victoria, on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall.

Donations in his memory may be made to The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund www.pwrdf.org/

Fr. Peter was my mentor as a deacon assigned to the parish of Gold River (1987). I watched in amazement as Peter supervised the construction of the present St. Peters Church, Campbell River. As an engineer and practical guy .. what a gift to his Anglican church.

Hello Ann, Nicola and Diana, I was just thinking of all of you last night and decided to see if I could find you online. My condolences on your father’s passing. My Dad passed on last January as you may have heard. I had been reading a James Herriot dog book and was remembering Willie! I hope to see you all someday again! Kelly

    Dear Diana ,
I am sorry for your loss of your dear father. He was a kind and thoughtful man. He almost always shared a wee short story with a smile and sparkle in his eye, about his wonderful loving family and how very proud he was of all of them.
May loving memories of him and the peacefulness that he radiated be with your mom and family forever.
    Take care,
    Lisa

Nic and Di: I have spoken to your Mother and said to her what I will say to you. Your father was a great influence on me as a young man. I wouldn’t have been the same person or through happenstance have met Darleene without knowing him. I often tell friends that the three men who most influenced me in my life were theologians, Peter being one of those. I have many fond memories of your Mom and Dad. Donna sends her condolences to you as well.
