1935 to 2013

Pete died peacefully, after braving a long battle with cancer, on April 17, 2013 in Victoria, BC. He was born on May 8, 1935 in Toronto, Ontario. Survived by his wife, Jo Dixon, of 56 years; his children, Gregory and Fern, Catherine and Dan, David and Alexandra, Michael and Natalie, Krista, John and Yolanda, Bob and Thelma Frandle; grandchildren, Shane, Serena, Christopher, Keenan, Kaevin, Rosalyn, Cristian, Chelsea, Casandra, Joseph, and Hannah and great-grandchild, Lucas. He will be dearly missed by family, friends and colleagues alike.

Pete dedicated his early years to raising a family of six children, working as a provincial civil servant. He dedicated his last 22 years, tirelessly contributing his time and wisdom, toward preserving the water and natural habitats of our good Earth; helping to ensure a future for his children and future generations to come. Pete worked with organizations such as the Sierra Club and the Veins of Life Watershed Society to accomplish these goals. He loved hiking, mountain climbing, fishing while valuing the time he spent with family and friends. Pete had a fascination with the universe and kept an open mind about his spirituality and final destiny.

A celebration of his life will be held at McCall’s Downtown, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, in Victoria on Tuesday, April 23rd at 12 Noon with a reception to follow in McCall’s Family Centre. To Jo and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Pete. Like so many of us, I loved Pete Dixon. Pete’s dedication to resolving environmental and community issues, his support for the preservation of natural habitats and rural lifestyles endures. He was the epitome of the gentle warrior, the knowledge keeper, the wise council. Above all, the best kind of friend a person could have, and a loving family man. Well done Pete!

Jo and family, the poem ends . . .”and left the vivid air signed with their honour.”

    Dear Jo and family,

Tthere is a poem by Stephen Spender which begins “I think continually of those who were truly great . . . .” That is how I think of Pete–he was truly great. He was a model of dedication, compassion, and conviction. Knowing him has enriched my life and the lives of many people.

Be assured of my sympathy and prayers,

    Bev
