Dear Ron, Gary and Peter, we are so sorry to that your father passed. I so remember the great times at Shawnigan Lake and fishing with your Dad, family BBQ’S and sailing races just to mention a few. And not to forget his vegie garden. Your dad is resting in a better place with other friends now.

  • David Avren

Dr. Pronger has been part of my life and my family’s life since day one, so much so it is difficult to imagine a world without him. He and his family opened their home to me through my childhood and youth after my own father died in 1965 when I was 9. Dr. Pronger’s taking me in, pretty much as as one of his own family, made all the difference.

He and my father had been medical colleagues, hunting companions and good friends, both men in their middle age raising children and working hard as doctors in Victoria.

He was a diamond in the rough, with a ready and unpretentious sense of humour, and simple and unaffected ways. He proved a prince indeed when his wife, Mrs. Dolores Pronger, was ill for several years, late in her life.

Even at age 90 and beyond he would climb into his little runabout at Shawnigan Lake for daily fishing trips, usually twice/day. We’d watch for him in the mid-morning and mid-afternoon from our cottage across the lake, marking the drift of the summer day with the news “Dr. Pronger’s out fishing again”.

He had the virtue of accepting people as they were, and the great ability to enjoy the ordinary and familiar blessings of life. He never pined for the exotic and the novel, never sought praise or attention.

His quiet caring, plain and gentle humour, and unaffected common sense are qualities of which the world could use much more. We’ll miss him, but we thank God for his life amongst us. Rest in peace, Dr. Pronger.

We know too how much you’ll miss him, Ron, Gary and Peter.
