June 30, 1956 – May 7, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce that Rick, our beloved husband, father, brother and grandfather passed away unexpectedly while travelling in Hawaii. He was predeceased by his father, Viktorio. Rick is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine; his son’s Michael and Colin; daughter-in-law, Amanda; his mother, Catarina; brother, Mario (Laura), sister, Cindy (Wayne) and their families; his precious grand-daughter, Bella and many other family members in Holland. Rick dedicated 37 years working for the Province of British Columbia, where he had many friends and colleagues. When he retired, he continued to enjoy travelling, golfing, camping and gardening.

As Rick would have wanted it, we are celebrating his inspirational and incredible life at McCall’s Downtown, Johnson & Vancouver Street, at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 24, 2013. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your charity of choice. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

A year has now gone by since Rick’s passing. Catherine and family, I wanted to say how privileged I feel that I got to know Rick over the past decade. Rick had a gift for making others feel special. I think this was because he was a special person himself. He had a zest for life and a smile that was contagious. You could see a spark of a mischief in his eyes when he told you a story, or when he listened to your’s. He’s truly a loveable character who will always be missed. A toast to you buddy, Port Renfrew is calling!!

Rick was a patient in my dental office. I will miss his bright smile and travel stories. He was always a joy to visit with. My heart goes out to his family. He will be missed!

Cathy, it is with a heavy heart that I offer my deepest condolences to you and your family. Rick was a friend through school, though our ways parted after that, it was wonderful to reconnect with him and you on our street. A fond memory, as I have told you, will always be that we could not pronounce his name in early school years so we called him Skyeddy. Our thoughts, Marilyn and mine, are with you.

I will be out of town for Rick’s service, but wish to express my condolences to his family. I worked with Rick at the liquor board. He was so kind and wonderful to work with. The last time I saw him I was with my baby boy a couple of years ago and he stopped to chat to me about his beloved granddaughter. Thinking of you all at this time…

    Cathy,

Please accept our condolences on your great loss. We were so shocked to read of Rick’s passing in the newspaper. Please know that our hearts go out to you and the boys. You have been in my thoughts alot the last few days. I keep remembering when Rick come to visit us in Port Renfrew to tell us that he’d met the girl of his dreams, his soulmate, and then again when you both came to visit in Sooke to show-off your cute little belly (Michael).

I’m so glad you have Colin and Michael and Bella to comfort you. We will remember the good times.

    Take care,
