ROGERS, Robert Gordon, The Honourable, O.C., O.B.C., K.St.J., LLD, D.ScM., C.D. We regret to announce the passing of The Honourable Robert G. Bob” Rogers on May 21, 2010. He leaves behind his wife and Chatelaine” of 69 years, Jane, his son, John (Lisa), his daughters Susan Russell (Denis) and Patty Jackson (Bob), seven wonderful grandsons, Jonathan Fane (Lindsay), Owen Rogers (Fiona), Toby Rogers, Alexander Fane (Marta), Kevin Jackson, Jaimie Rogers, and Eric Jackson (Ana), and three very special great granddaughters, Faro Koza-Rogers, Jacqueline and Phoebe Fane. Mr. Rogers was born in Montreal, Quebec on August 19, 1919 and grew up in Montreal and Toronto. He attended the University of Toronto Schools and the University of Toronto before joining up and serving with the Royal Canadian Armour Corp. (1st Hussars) during the 2nd World War in both the UK and Europe. After landing with his regiment on Juno Beach during the D-Day invasion in 1944, he returned to Canada to attend the Royal Military College in Kingston. Following the war, he started his business career. This career which spanned almost 40 years, included service on the boards of directors of many Canadian and international companies and culminated as the Chairman of the Board of Crown Zellerbach Canada Ltd. In 1983 he was appointed as Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, serving as B.C.’s 24th Lieutenant-Governor during Expo 86. Following his term in office, Mr. Rogers was elected as Chancellor of the University of Victoria. Despite his many business and public service activities, Grandpa Rogers had time for his family spending it together firstly at Foston Farm, the 120 acre farm situated near Knowlton in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, and then at their elegant waterside retreat at Dorcas Point, north of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. As well, golf was a very large part of Dad’s life, working on his educated” slice first at Shaughnessy Golf Club in Vancouver and latterly at the Victoria Golf Club in Victoria. His family wishes to thank Toni, Theresa and Monique for their focused and thoughtful care during Dad’s later years. A celebration of the life of the Honourable Robert G. Rogers will be held at Government House on Saturday, June 26, 2010.
