November 19, 1929 – June 12, 2010
Robert (Bob) passed away at Sunset Lodge on June 12 surrounded by his loving family, listening to his favourite song and covered by his Saskatchewan Roughriders blanket. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan on November 19, 1929, he was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Alice Bird (nee Noonan); beloved wife Ruth (nee Conibear); son-in-law Steve Chatton and great-grandson Colton McIntosh. He is survived by his five daughters, Gerry Edwards, Linda Chatton, Lorraine McIntosh, Joanne Maas (Dave), Susan Rooper (Peter); sisters, Patricia MacLean, Marion Vance and twin sister Elizabeth Pyle; grandchildren, Nick, Morgan, Ryan, Dave, Bob, Meara Danielle, Lisa, Leah, Kate; sisters-in-law, Frances Biehl, Ada Mesak , Elsie Person; brother-in-law John Biehl and several great-grandchildren. Bob will also be remembered by many loving nephews, nieces, cousins and by his very special friend and companion, Ruth McIntyre. Dad worked at Palm Dairies for close to thirty years and retired from Island Farms. He will be remembered as a kind, quiet, gentle person and a wonderful father to all his children and grandchildren. Dad really enjoyed sports and coached football and basketball. He was a great fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and we thank Jamie Boreham for sending Dad his team card every year. His nephew Bruce Paisley gave him a gift of shares in the team a few years ago and he was absolutely thrilled. The family wishes to thank all the wonderful staff at Sunset Lodge for their kind and compassionate care. We also thank Fred and Doreen Keizer for their friendship and weekly visits and Dr. Barry Conway for his kindness and dedication over many years. In lieu of flowers, donations to Sunset Lodge (952 Arm St. Victoria BC V9A 4G7) would be greatly appreciated.

Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Joseph the Worker Parish (785 West Burnside Rd.) with Father William Hann at 9:00 a.m. on Sat. June 19. A reception will follow in the parish hall. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

Gerry Lynda and family, I offer my deepest sympathy on the loss of your Dear Dad. I do know words are of little comfort at a time like this, but I am praying for the repose of his soul and that God will give you the strength you need at this time of grief. Your Dad is home at last with Jesus and your Mom, enjoying his eternal rest, free from suffering. They will both be with you always in spirit.
All my love and prayers, May he REST IN PEACE.

It has been many many years but the impact Mr. Bird had on me during my teenage years will never be forgotten. I also remember him as quiet, kind and certainly very gentle. He always had time for his basketball girls at St. Anns Academy and taught us by example what sportsmanship was all about.

Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.

I was shocked to read in the paper of Mr. Bird’s passing. Thinking of him brings a smile to my face. He was always a very kind man who had a great family to support him. Thinking of you all at this difficult time.
    Jen (from the old office)
