Roger passed away peacefully at home with his wife Debbie by his side on July 16, 2026. He was born on March 14, 1948, in Victoria.
Predeceased by his father, George Garside and sister Karen Stevenot, he is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Debbie; his five children; Lisa, Chelsea (Christophe), Tina (John), David and Nova. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren; Kyler, Peyton, Owen, Willow, Pyatt, Piper, Mason, Fisher and Eloi. Also survived by his brother-in-law, Dale, sister-in-law, Sara and his niece, Alisha. Roger will be greatly missed by family members and many good friends including Rod Spooner and Dale Henley.
Roger was born and raised in Victoria, lived and worked mainly on the Saanich Peninsula. He was a well-respected home builder and land developer on the Peninsula for over 50 years. He started in the building business with his father, George, at the age of 16 and continued on his own until his son David began working with him. Roger was a dedicated man who believed in doing the best he could and loved what he did. He enjoyed being a part of the building business and built many fine homes and condominiums.
Roger enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, and they had many great times boating, motorcycling, travelling, and doing projects together as well as spending time with their family. His greatest joy was being able to provide memorable times for his family, particularly his grandchildren. He loved dogs; his dog Jax will miss him.
A Celebration of Roger’s Life will be held on Tuesday August 11, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the Mary Winspear Centre, 2243 Beacon Ave, Sidney, BC.
