To Sabo’s family: Sabo and I developed a very close and lasting friendship in the summer of 1952 after I left the Army and he came here on leave that summer and fall. It was a friendship kindled by a common military history and remained constant over the years. Whenever he visited The Pas or I visited Victoria we always looked each other up to share our memories of when we were young soldiers and buddies. He was one of those unforgetable characters with a rough exterior who always gave himself away with a tear in his eye and a big bear hug whenever we met up over the years.
    “I will remember him”
