August 8, 1925 – September 24, 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Butlin at the age of 89 years at his home in Victoria BC. Ron will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Cheryl Caulder and Allison Carlin; grandchildren Joe, Shara and Brent and great grandchildren Machayla and Jackson. He was predeceased by wife Shirley and siblings Hazel, Frank and Noel. He will be missed by many relatives, associates and dear friends. Ron had a dynamic and successful career and was a positive and motivating force in all of his endeavours. His list of accomplishments include; owner/manager of a management consulting firm, founding member and first President of the Calgary Booster Club, owner/manager of Calgary Spurs hockey team, Chief Administrator of the Western Hockey League, Director of Team Canada ’72 in the Canada/Russia hockey series, original Chairman and Managing Director of the Alberta Summer and Winter Games, BC Summer and Winter Games and Washington State Games.  For the past 22 years of his life he was Chairman of the Victoria Festival Society staging the Annual Santa Claus and Victoria Day Parade as well as serving on numerous advisory boards, managing political campaigns and volunteering his time and skills endlessly.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Uplands Golf Club on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, Wilson Block – 1952 Bay Street, Victoria, BC V8R 1J8.  Condolences may be offered to the family below.

    We are saddened by the passing of Ron. Our association with the BC Games and Ron extended over 20 BC Games. It was a wonderful friendship that continued with regular phone calls to keep in touch. His imprint on sports and other events were most impressive.

    I’m sadden to have heard of uncle Ron’s passing. He was my favourite uncle. I remember all the fantastic times we had when I was a kid. He took me to many events, mostly sports events.
