Sandra Lynne “Sandy” Boorman (née Boak) passed away peacefully at home on June 15, 2026, at the age of 80, surrounded by her family.
Sandy was born on May 10, 1946, in Ottawa, Ontario, to Lieutenant-Commander Eric Boak and Phyllis Boak (née Jesse). As the daughter of a high-ranking WWII naval officer, she spent her early childhood at various naval postings along Canada’s East Coast before the family eventually returned to their family in Oak Bay.
Sandy’s roots in Oak Bay ran deep. She was the third great-granddaughter of Captain William Henry McNeill who, while working for the Hudson’s Bay Company, helped determine the location of Fort Victoria and became one of the original landowners in Oak Bay. This rich family history gave Sandy a lifelong connection to the community she loved. She attended Oak Bay Highschool, where she formed many fond memories.
On July 13, 1968, Sandy married the love of her life, Ian Boorman. Together, they built a life centered on family, friendship, and adventure.
Sandy is lovingly remembered by her husband, Ian; her sons, Mike (Maria) and Dean; her grandchildren, Spencer, Evelyn, and Tierra; her sister, Erica Dabrowski; her sister-in-law, Pam (Gord); and her brother-in-law, Keith (Maureen), along with countless extended family members and friends who became family.
Many of Sandy’s happiest childhood memories were made at the family cottage on Shawnigan Lake. In later years, she and Ian spent countless summers cruising the Gulf Islands, the San Juan Islands, and Desolation Sound, forming lifelong friendships through the Capital City Yacht Club. They enjoyed many happy years wintering in Palm Desert and Maui with family and friends. Sandy and Ian were also regular visitors to the Uplands Golf Club, where Sandy cherished the friendships she made with both members and staff.
Sandy lit up every room she entered with her smile and sense of style. She will be remembered for her joyful spirit, sharp sense of humour, kind and supportive conversations, and her warm, heartfelt hugs.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to Victoria Hospice and their team of angels, especially Dr. Tanya Berrang, for her exceptional care, guidance, and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held on July 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria Hospice.
