Mackell, Sean died suddenly on October 5, 2010 in Victoria, BC. Sean was born on May 19, 1956 in Boston, Mass.

Sean is survived by his partner Colita Landmesser; his parents Kathleen and Fleming; his siblings Rosemary, Kathy, Michael, Joanne, Maureen, Sheilagh, and Fleming; and his nieces and nephews Noah, Clara, Jennifer, Hannah, Maggie, Addy, Gabriel, and Emilie and Charlotte Jones.

Sean was a wanderer and a dreamer. He followed the sun… Key Largo, Hawaii, California and BC are places he loved. Sean was a carpenter and a builder. He was also an artist, taking old windows that people threw away, transforming them into collectable mirrors which he sold all over North America. Sean was an entrepreneur whose sense of adventure was infectious.

The Mackell family plans to celebrate Sean’s beautiful life in mid December when all the family can be home and together. The date will be announced in the coming weeks.

In lieu of flowers friends and family are invited to make a donation to Covenant House (Toronto or Vancouver) in Sean’s name. www.covenanthouse.org

    Dear Mackell Family,
I have many fond memories of Sean and some of the great adventures we had together. I still laugh when I think about or tell stories of hitch hiking to California, and then across the country to Florida to meet up with Joey and other friends for spring break. Sean had a great spirit of adventure and I know he will be truly missed.
    Much Love,
    Brian Kutyn

Shawn as I knew him was a great friend and colleague.
We were always dreaming up knew ways to make money, may it be gutters, windows, or painting. He would always make sure there was a lunch for you that Coco had prepared the night before like her famous meatloaf sandwiches. We would often go to A&W for the famous two for $6 teen burgers.
He was always loyal and dedicated to his clients. He wasn’t happy unless they were happy! Sean took pride in his work and taught me a few “extra” things.Ha ha.
We often got out for a good game of frizbee or football unless golf was on of coarse. There was no interupting Tiger on the coarse.
Sean was excitable and most of the time fun to be with. He was a dear friend and always looking out for you.
My condolences to his family,Colita, and the friends around him.
    We miss you Mackell

Dear MacKell family – Growing up on the same street in Roxboro and being one large family with another – brings the pain closer to home. His memory is a gift that God allows us to keep and use to move forward – carry his memory in your heart to share with your friends and family. I think of your family often as I pass by your old stomping grounds!

    Keep in touch Maureen –
Love Patricia and the entire Lawrence family

  • Diane Rolfe

My sincere condolences to Sean`s family and friends. I only heard the sad news today and a fllod of memories came rushing back from our past together. Sean and I were friends growing up in the west island. The wanderer that he was, he would come in and out of my life without warning, but it was always so much fun to see his dancing eyes and smiling face pop up, out of the blue, on my front porch. Sean was one of a kind and dearly loved by all his friends. I can’t help but smile when I think of him.
    Love and big hugs Sean
    Diane (A.K.A. Dino)

To Colita & Sean’s and Colita’s families – We are both very sorry to learn of Sean’s passing. We will miss him.
    — We 1st knew Sean (& Colita) in his role as renovator and painter of our old James Bay home. He & Colita & their work crew were highly professional in their work with us (& we appreciated this). They brought our house to life — which, we noticed, was something that Sean had a tendency to do – bring those around him more into life.
    — He brought vibrancy & a sharing of passion for life into his relationships. He was authentic, genuine, & clear, and he seemed to revel in living.
    — After he completed work on our house, we often talked with Sean as we met in James Bay. He’d be riding his bike (& lately, more frequently, he’d be riding Colita’s bike – because he liked it so much) and he’d stop to chat with us. He was honest, open, gentle, sensitive and strong. He was alive and vibrant. He remains a Bright star in humanity — & he will always be a Bright Star in our hearts.
    — We cherish our brief friendship with Sean & we will not forget him. Our hope is that we can follow his example in how he lived life fully and honourably.
    — We send our support to Colita & to his close friends and family. The loss of this fine, good, man will leave a rift in their hearts that will take much time to heal.

  • Dean Brandhagen

My deepest sympathies to Colita and the Mackell Family.

I had the pleasure of working closely with Sean over the past few years on many Victorian restoration projects in our lovely Victoria neighborhood of James Bay.

Sean was a conscientious businessman and always strove to provide high quality work to all his clients. He was an inspiration to me in many ways.

We would chat on the phone many times a day planning how the jobs would progress. I had the pleasure of working with Sean on one of his very last days with us and feel very honored to have known him.

I am chatting daily with his many clients who have lost their painter or handyperson, trying to fill the gap his passing has left in their lives.

    I’ll miss you my Friend!

  • Bob Blackburn

    To the Mackell family,

I read about Sean’s passing this morning and wish to pass on condolences on behalf of the Bertoia family.

I fell out of touch with Sean 40 years ago when our family moved from Roxboro. Sean and I were classmates/friends and I certainly remember visiting the Mackell household on many occasions. With the 6 Bertoia kids and the 8 Mackell kids, all were classmates/friends with one or the other.

    Sincerely,

    Doug(ie) Bertoia
