Shirley was born in Victoria on July 29, 1927.  She left Victoria following her marriage in 1947 but returned in 1971, moving shortly afterwards to North Vancouver.  There she completed her BA and Teaching Certificate at Simon Fraser University in 1976.  A natural teacher, Shirley had always been an endlessly patient and inspiring educator to her four children, but now she reached out to teach and later to tutor English in the Vancouver area.  She was much loved by her students and their families.

On June 29, 2013, she passed away suddenly but peacefully in North Vancouver.  She will be sadly  missed by her daughters Janice (Russell), Jackie (Jim), Corinne (Moira) and Laurie (Kip), her grandchildren Ryan, Jeremy, Beverley, Erin, Stephanie, Christopher, Amelia, Jessie, Sarah, Catherine, Stuart and Tyler and her great-grandchildren Zoe and Silas.

Shirley was predeceased by her father, John Henry Croft, her mother Beatrice Mary Croft and her brother Jack Croft, all of Victoria.

Mom – we will always remember and be inspired by your courage, your fierce dedication to your girls, your pride in your family and especially your smile.

Special thanks to the staff of Evergreen House in North Vancouver who took such good care of Shirley during her last years.
