Stanley Gordon Smith

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather on Sunday, April 26th, 2009. A native son of Victoria, Stan was born Nov 18th, 1940 to Sidney and Dorothy Smith. He attended Cloverdale and Lampson Elementary then Esquimalt High before joining the P.P.C.L.I. and serving overseas in Germany. On his return, he served on the C.N.A.V. Endeavour before joining the B.C. Ferries Corporation where he thrived and enjoyed a successful 35 year career.
Stan is predeceased by his parents and younger brother David. He leaves behind Audrey, his loving wife of 40 years, son Glenn (Mona); his sisters Patricia, Lorraine, and Dianne (Ron); sister in-law Norah; Step-children Ann (Doug), Tom (Karen), Steve (Pat); grandchildren Andrew, Sarah, Steven, Troy, Tanis, Stephanie, and Jennifer; great-grandchildren Ashley, Sophie, Bailey, Jade, and Mya, and numerous nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the U.S. He will be missed by his “army buddy” Dennis, close friend Rick, his poker buddies Roy, Des, Gary, and John, and all his former colleagues at B.C. Ferries.
Many thanks for the care and special attention given by the nursing staff at the Peninsula Health Centre, the volunteer drivers at Beacon Community Services, the attending paramedic crew, and the Sidney R.C.M.P. Special thanks to his physician Brian Winsby, for his years of care and friendship.
Those wishing to pay their last respects are invited to attend a visitation on Monday, May 4th from 6:00 pm to 8:30pm at McCall Bros. Funeral Chapel, 1400 Vancouver St., Victoria, B.C. A celebration of Stan’s life for family and friends will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to a charity of choice.
