With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Suraj Singh Domeli, who left us far too soon at the age of 30. Born and raised in Victoria, BC, Suraj was known for his unwavering work ethic, quiet strength, and deep love for those around him.
A passionate athlete, Suraj had a lifelong love for rugby and made it a tradition to organize annual trips to Vancouver for the Rugby Sevens tournament. He carried that same dedication into his professional life, working tirelessly in various roles before pursuing his true calling in law enforcement. After graduating from the University of Victoria and the BC Justice Institute, he became a police officer, a role in which he truly excelled. Respected by colleagues and leadership alike, Suraj embodied the integrity, courage, and dedication of his profession.
Beyond his career, Suraj found happiness in life’s simple moments—going for drives, spending time with family and friends, and traveling to England to visit loved ones. He had a deep fascination with planes and could often be found watching them take off at the airport. The holiday season was especially meaningful to him, as he cherished the time when everyone came together.
Among the most important relationships in his life was the one he shared with his grandmother. More than a grandson, he was her caregiver, always checking in on her, ensuring her laundry was done, medication was taken and meals were ready on time. Playfully, he took on the role of her “manager”, always keeping things in order and directing others in the house to make sure she was well cared for. They shared a love for sweets—he would buy her treats and even stock up her nightstand so she’d never run out.
Suraj was deeply devoted to his fiancée, with whom he was excited to build a future. He held great pride in the home they purchased and renovated together and was eagerly looking forward to their wedding later this year. He showed his love through acts of service, whether it involved cleaning, yard work, or simply keeping his living space organized and meticulous. He took pride in the small things that made life better for those around him. To those who knew him well, he was warm, kind, and deeply loyal.
Suraj will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.
A celebration of Suraj’s life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 10:00 am. Zoom link below:

Leanne Rowan Thinking of you all during this difficult time. I had the privilege of working on B platoon with Suraj. When I first joined the shift, I got my police vehicle stuck in the snow. Suraj was the first one to offer to help & jumped into the drivers seat to get the vehicle out. He did this all with a smile. I really appreciated his kindness & how welcome he made me feel as the new person to B platoon. Suraj always had a kind smile for anyone he crossed paths with. You will be deeply missed by the SPD family & never forgotten.

Maria Parker I met Suraj several years ago, before he joined the police force, and had the privilege of witnessing his dedication and enthusiasm as he prepared for the Saanich Police Department. I watched as he became an officer and grew into the wonderful young man he was. Suraj was always respectful, kind, and positive.

Jon Cawsey I had the pleasure of being named one of his field trainers when he came back from the police academy. Eager to learn, Suraj was an easy student. Sharing a car together for 12 hours at a time, you get to know somebody. His passions, dreams, and loves. He was tenacious investigator, dedicated partner, and compassionate officer. Taking the time to listen, to show respect, and showcasing what a true leader in the community should be. It was my honour getting to know him and being able to call him a friend. Thank you to his family for sharing him with us, with me. He will be deeply missed. Until we meet again friend.

Jason Bland My heart is heavy and I am so deeply sorry for the Domeli family at this time. I had the honour of meeting Suraj as an applicant to our Reserve Constable program and was so impressed with him that I hounded him relentlessly to pursue a career as a sworn officer in our department. I was so struck with respect and pride when he was hired on as a regular member and want you all to know he was an impactful and outstanding officer. His sense of humanity, service, compassion and highest ethical standards made him one of our absolute finest.
