It is with deep sadness, yet with the assurance of Christian hope, that the family announces the peaceful passing of Valdine Ruth Sissons, lovingly known as Val, on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at the age of 71.
Val lived a life characterized by her deep love for Jesus Christ, unwavering devotion to her family, generous spirit, and heartfelt commitment to serving others.
Having given her life to Jesus at a young age, Val’s Christian faith became the foundation of her life, shaping her relationships, values, and lifelong desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
In 1978, Val graduated from Western Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education. She also pursued biblical studies at Genesis Discipleship Centre, further nurturing her passion for Christian discipleship and spiritual growth.
Val married the love of her life, David Sissons, on August 2, 1980, in Banff, Alberta. Together, they shared more than 46 years of marriage, building a life marked by love, faith, and commitment. Their journey took them through Ontario and Manitoba before they settled in British Columbia, where they raised their two beloved children, Valancy and Joshua.
A gifted artist, dedicated teacher, passionate prayer warrior, and mentor to many, Val had a remarkable ability to encourage, inspire, and invest in the lives of those around her. Her creativity, kindness, generosity, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on countless individuals.
Val also had a profound passion for global missions and Christian ministry. Throughout her life, she faithfully supported and encouraged numerous organizations, including The Salvation Army, Youth for Christ, Regent College, Camp Imadene, Mustard Seed, and Equip Leadership Canada. Through her prayers, generosity, and personal involvement, she helped advance ministries dedicated to sharing the Gospel, developing Christian leaders, and serving people in need.
Above all, Val treasured her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, David; her beloved children, Valancy and Joshua; her daughter-in-law, Rebeca; and her cherished grandchildren, Ezra, Selah, and Boaz.
Val is also survived by her loving sisters, Judy Nalos (Duncan) and Rhonda Campbell; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Malcolm Sissons (Jennifer), Paul Sissons (Tracie), Mark Sissons, and Megs Waterous (Gordon); and her nieces and nephews, Lisa (Dan), Paul (Rachel), Jocelyn, Harrison, Gill (Gord), Lisanne (Dale), Robert (Yvonne), Robin (Gordie), Patrick (Kim), Heather, and Kieran. She will also be fondly remembered by many extended family members and dear friends.
Val was predeceased by her beloved parents, Eva and Bernard Barkaman; her parents- in-law, Jack and Nancy Ruth Sissons; and her sister Bernadine Plumridge, and her brother-in-law, Blair Plumridge.
In her final days, when her palliative care physician asked about her short-term plans, Val offered a simple yet profound response:
“I want to see Jesus.”
Those words beautifully summarize the faith that guided her life and the eternal hope she embraced. They are a precious testimony to her love for her Saviour and her confidence in His promises.
As the Apostle Paul wrote: “For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” — Philippians 1:21 (CSB)
Val’s legacy will continue through the family she loved, the friendships she nurtured, the people she mentored, and the many lives touched by her faith, prayers, and generosity.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, British Columbia, on Friday, October 23, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., officiated by Rev. Dr. Paul Pascoal.
A private family interment will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2026, in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

Val will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
