SWONNELL, Viola Elenora (nee Savage)

Born February 8th, 1925 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Passed away in Victoria, September 14, 2011. Viola attended school in West Kildonan, a Winnipeg suburb. During World War II, she worked in an aircraft repair factory, and after the war, she worked at T. Eaton Co. in the Mail Order Division, and then in the Federal Government offices until retirement. Viola enjoyed being a Wolf Cub Pack Leader for several years, before moving to Victoria in 1979. She was a long time member of St. Luke’s Church, where she was very active in the church choir and bazaar.

Predeceased by her father and mother; husband Frank of 60 years; brothers Richard and William. Survived by two sisters Lillian Matwichuk and Marion Gray, both of Winnipeg; five brothers Robert of Courtenay, BC, Victor, Harry and David, all of Winnipeg and George of White Rock, BC.

Auntie Vi will be remembered for her humour, quick wit and her exceptional command of the English language. Her family would like to thank all of the staff at Mt. Tolmie Hospital for their kind care and support.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 10:00 am at ST. LUKE’S CHURCH, 3821 Cedar Hill Cross Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mt. Tolmie Hospital, 3690 Richmond Avenue, Victoria, BC V8P 4R6. Condolences may be offered at www.mccallbros.com.
