Wesley died peacefully at Victoria Hospice on Wednesday, November 10th. He is survived by his loving wife Rosemary (nee Gray) of Victoria from 61 years of marriage, his sons Michael (Marilyn) and Christopher (Cheryl); his grandchildren Paul (Monika), Patrick and Philip and four loving great grandaughters, Anabel, Sophie-Jane, Erika and Kirallee. In addition, he is survived by his sister Josie Pilgrim of Ottawa.

Wes was born in Foxleigh, Saskatchewan on October 14, 1924.

He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1941 at the very young age of 17 as an Ordinary Seaman. He was in action during World War II including the North Atlantic campaign and retired as a Lieutenant in 1966.

He met his dear wife Rosemary when they were both students at the University of Saskatchewan and they were married in Regina in 1949.

After his retirement, Wes worked as an accountant and also owned and operated for several years his own business being Painter’s Lodge Resort in Campbell River, BC. He later worked for Revenue Canada.

Wes was an active and enthusiastic member of Fourandex of Canada, No. 6 Company, Victoria, the Royal Canadian Legion, the Naval Officers Association and Camosun Gyro.

A very special thanks to all the nurses and staff at both Royal Jubilee Hospital, Royal 1 Ward and all the very wonderful people at Victoria Hospice.

There will be a celebration of Wes’s life on Saturday, November 27th at the Uplands Golf Course from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, generous donations to the Victoria Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation, Richmond Pavillion, 1952 Bay Street, Victoria, BC V8R 1J8 would be most appreciated. Rosemary:

Wes was always a pleasure to be around. I enjoyed sitting with him at Gyro, especailly when he showed up early and we were able to Chin-wag about politics and other issues. He was a great Gyro and will be missed. Our thoughts are with you.

    Rosemary, Michael and Chris:
Nettie and I would like to express our sincerest condolences to you and your families on the loss of your dear husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Wes was a great friend to us for almost fifty years! He was ready to do anything for his family. I will never forget how he would always refer to you, Rosemary, as “my little sweetie” I am sure he would never have survived those past difficult years without your constant support. So as they say in the Navy, “Bravo Zulu Rosemary”

    Les and Nettie

I didn’t get to know Wes for long but his quiet sense of humor made him a great companion. His Gyro buddies will miss him.
