It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” Charles Fry on April 7th, 2018. Bill is predeceased by his sister Lorraine (Kelly) and survived by his loving wife Patricia (nee Salter), children Andrew, Gordon, Charlaine and Dan, grandchildren Dana, Brandon, Simon, Michael, Alexis, Shelby and Forrest, and great grand children Brayden and Jada with a 3rd grand child to be born any day now.

Born in Victoria, BC in 1932, Bill began his love of music at the age of 12 when he was placed in trombone lessons by his father Charles. What followed was a life of music evolving from school and military bands, to a variety of orchestras and jazz ensembles, to years with the Victoria Shrine Band and rewarding stints with the Victoria and Vancouver symphonies.

His love of music was rivaled only by his larger than life sense of humour and infectious laughter … he participated in many social groups that performed outrageous skits and general comedy acts that would have the audience in stitches. He was just a natural performer.

A 41-year Provincial Government employee specializing in native land claims, Bill was a proud member of several Masonic lodges and a long-time member of the Victoria Shrine Club Giza Temple #9 (president 1996).

A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on Monday, April 16th, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Shrine Children’s Hospital or Kiwanis Pavillion.

Dear Pat & Family We are sorry to learn of Bill’s passing and just wanted to say how sorry we are of your loss. We had some great times together travelling and playing with the Shrine Band. Our deepest sympathy to you & the family.
I am sorry we will not be able to attend Bill’s service as we live in Qualicum Beach and are unable to get down to Victoria.

  • Donna Humphries

Bill always impressed me with his knowledge and his professionalism. He was never swayed by political imperatives or ambitious egos of senior management – and he usually had a wry comment or two! Bill was in a league of his own.

My sincere condolences and may your memories bring you comfort at this time.

What a great picture of Bill. just exactly as I remember him. He had a special way about him, twinkle in the eye, I always enjoyed my visits with him and Ricky, they had a wonderful life together, many good times with his Shriners and on their trips. He will be missed. The last visit I had with them both, Ricky and I were sitting in the living room sharing a bottle of wine and talking non stop as we hadn’t seen each other in a while and he comes casually into the room with a wine glass ready to join in with us, was really cute at the time.. Ricky was lucky to have a husband like Bill who was so genuine and social and happy with his life.
