I was a student of Mr Waring. He was a fine teacher. I credit my passion for travel to his adventurous field trips. He will be remembered fondly.
Ted was influential to both my sister Mariah and I when we went to Lakewood elementary. He got us into photography and filmmaking. I won’t forget when he let me edit a video for the first time in iMovie on the new iMacs. Thanks for all you contributed to our community
May all these wonderful letters of condolence bring Kathy and her family great
comfort at this very sad time. They show Ted’s very lively and positive influence
in the lives of all of us who were lucky enough to know him!
My sincere condolences to the family of Ted Waring. I am so sad to hear of your loss. Ted was an amazing teacher and individual. He taught 3 of my children at Lakewood. He definitely was one of the favourite teachers!! I also had the pleasure of working with Ted and he always had a smile on his face. He will be missed.

Dear Kathy,
I am sorry to hear Ted has left the building with an exit stage right. He was a one and only.
I have happy memories of times in his company and in yours Kathy.
We had a silly activity at Glenlake School whereby I would scour second hand shops and buy “gifts” for the men on staff….gifts were presented at an after school get together. Gifts were intended to amuse. An one such”gift event”I was thrilled to have found a really frightful shirt from Hawaii. Ted opened the gift…..left the room to change….minutes later he returned skipping down the hall to show off his new look. He LOVED the shirt which was not the intention at all. I think he did wear it on a trip to Hawaii……
The man was skilled in so many things it is a bit mind boggling to reflect.
Ted took the pictures at my daughter Triana’s wedding and though the marriage did not work the pictures are a beautiful reminder of his skill behind the camera.
I am assuming he will be somewhere producing an epic with a cast of thousands….they may not want to be in the play but they will go along with the enthusiastic Mr. Waring.
With love to you and the children and of course dear Amy.
Take care,
Angela
Dear Kathy, Andrew, Elizabeth, and Kaitlyn
I was so saddened to hear of Ted’s passing. He is certainly a One in a Million gentle-man!!!! Ted and I first met when I moved to Victoria, going into Grade 9 at Gordon Head Junior High. We attended some of the same classes together and I remember him as a fun-loving, kind, and caring individual. We both attended Mt. Douglas High School, and in our Grade 12 year, Ted was the Student Council Vice-President and I, Secretary. Later in life I would learn how ironic that would be.
As an Administrative Assistant in SD 62, I got to meet Andrew, Elizabeth and Kaitlyn when they attended Belmont Senior Secondary. Our son, Todd, and Elizabeth graduated from there the same year. Ted did mention that one day Elizabeth brought a school friend over and introduced Todd to him….”Hummmmm, so Todd, is your mother by any chance, Lynda Powell?” I love it…friendships going full circle. I enjoyed a fun-filled, working relationship with Ted while he was teaching at Lakewood Elementary and I was the Secretary. His caring manner, sense of humor, compassion and enthusiasm were evident in all he did. He was respected by students, parents, and colleagues alike. His smile, with that twinkle in his eye, and infectious laugh were his trademark. During my time at Lakewood my father, Charlie Glauser and Evie got married. Ted gifted them his skill as photographer for their wedding. It was delightful!!! In more recent years, I would take Evie grocery shopping following her hair appointment, and we would undoubtedly meet up with Kathy and her mother at Thrifty’s…where Kathy and I would catch up briefly on life as our two mothers would take off independently with their own buggies.
In Ted’s last year of teaching prior to retiring from Ecole John Stubbs Memorial School, he often hired Todd as his TOC. The mentoring that Ted gave Todd in the area of technology has been an invaluable tool for him in his own career.
Our lives crossed paths a lot over the years. When we would bump into one another along the Galloping Goose, or the grocery store, many minutes would pass as we would update each other on our lives….mostly it was about family…Ted was so very proud of his own…Kathy, his children, grandchildren and all of their four-legged fur buddies. He would delight in sharing special places to camp, and where the fishing was good.
This past fall, Ted and I enjoyed the friendships of our classmates at our 50th High School Reunion. More recently he had asked me to proofread his latest novel. He was so excited about this project. I am so happy I was able to do that with him. I know I am one of many who is grateful that I had the opportunity to have this larger than life man in my life…Ted was a wonderful buddy that I am honored to call friend.
Thank you Kathy, Andrew, Elizabeth and Kaitlyn for sharing your husband, father and grandfather with us. I hope the memories and stories you continue to share will help your tender hearts. My sincere condolences.
