On August 2, 2026, surrounded by his family, Anthony James Nadolski died at the age of 79 after a battle with cancer. He was, to the very end, exactly who he had always been: stubborn, funny, and concerned for the welfare of his patients.
Born in London, England, to Joyce and Ziggy Nadolski, Anthony grew up in Scarborough, Ontario. He graduated from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Dentistry in 1975 and moved to Victoria that same year. For the next five decades it was his home, his practice, and his community, and he loved all three.
He practiced dentistry in Victoria for over fifty years and was still seeing patients a month before he died. That single fact says most of what needs to be said about him. He knew his patients’ families, their histories, and their worries, and many of them stayed with him for thirty and forty years because he had earned that kind of loyalty.
He gave his profession the same devotion. He joined the Victoria District Dental Society when he arrived in the city, later serving as an executive member and President, and spent four years as a council member and President of the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia. From 1975 onward he was a member of the dental staff at both Victoria General and Royal Jubilee Hospitals, cared for patients at Glengarry Hospital for some fifteen years, and looked after several group homes across the city. He served roughly a decade as Section Head and later Division Head of Dentistry for the Vancouver Island Health Authority, and he was a vocal advocate and negotiator for the BC Dental Association with the Ministry of Health.
Some of the many recognitions he received include the BC Dental Association’s Humanitarian Award in 2004 for his care of disabled and underprivileged patients, a Certificate of Appreciation in 2006 for Community Dental Day, and the Association’s Service Award in 2007 for ten years of volunteer work on their negotiating committee. Away from dentistry, he was a member of the Camosun Gyro Club and served two terms as a governor of the Victoria Conservatory of Music.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nushin Nadolski; his children Dana Hosseini, Christina Nadolski, and Anna Nadolski, and their partners Stacie, Michael, and Luke; his grandchildren Ella and Mia Young, Emma and Keira Larison, and Arthur and Benjamin Nadolski; and his siblings Adam, Mary, and Chris Nadolski. He is missed dearly by his family, the many friends he made laugh, and the many patients whose lives he touched over fifty years of service.
The family extends its deepest gratitude to the Hospice and Palliative Care unit at Royal Jubilee Hospital for their kindness and care. A celebration of Anthony’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Agency would be appreciated.
