Lynne A. Peterson, known in family circles as Auntie Anne and Lynne Anne, passed away at about 2:00 p.m. at the Victoria Hospice October 5th, 2011, in her beloved city of Victoria from numerous cancerous tumours. She was born on September 12, 1945 in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan to John (Jack) Laughlin Cook and Millicent Agatha Williams. Lynne graduated as an R.N. in 1965, from Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg where she worked for a year. She and three other nursing friends travelled around Europe at which time a serious car accident changed her life forever. In the Fall of 1969, knowing she couldn’t work as an R.N., she enrolled in the University of Saskatoon, graduating in three years with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She then immediately moved to B.C. due to the prairie climate. Lynne worked for one year doing heart research in Vancouver for a group of doctors, then moved to Victoria to work as a public health nurse. This was the job for her, staying at the job until retiring just prior to age 65. Lynne is survived by three sons, Grant and twin brothers, David and John; one brother; two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Dale Peterson; father, John Cook in 1984; mother, Millicent in 2011 and an infant brother. Lynne loved to play bridge and prior to the arrival of her immediate family, she travelled to places like Vegas and Hawaii to play competitive bridge. Lynne was very rich with many great friends, she always demonstrated such compassion for her family, siblings and friends. The family are so grateful for the many flowers, various goodies etc., that were given to Lynne during her final weeks. Lynne will always be remembered for her heartfelt kindness and compassion and her fighting spirit. The family is ever so grateful for the care and compassion demonstrated by the Victoria Hospice at Richmond Pavilion, the B.C. Cancer Society and all of the volunteers at the Hospice; they are just so compassionate.
A Celebration of her life will take place on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at SEQUOIA GARDENS MEMORIAL, 4665 Falaise Drive, in Royal Oak (Saanich) with a reception to follow. Cremation. As expressions of sympathy, donations in memory of Lynne can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria BC V8R 6V5 or BC Schizophrenia Society-Victoria, Branch, 941 Kings Road, Victoria, BC V8T 1W7. Our hearts are heavy with the passing of Lynne Ann. We were very fortunate to spend time with her and her Mother on her Mother’s 98th Birthday along with her brother Harold and Sister Audrey. We later shared an evening with Lynne Ann at a Curling Event in Victoria. Had her and her Mother to our home in March when my brothers visited

I am a Class ’66 friend and classmate of “Cookies”. I just returned from Italy and thought of her often as we experienced the hairpin curves and difficult driving conditions there. Lynne Anne was a great lady in many ways and she endured her fate bravely.
I was so sorry to hear the news of her death on my return and send my love and condolences to her family. She will be missed but never ever forgotten.
My life has been mainly in Ontario so we connected at our Class Reunions on occasion.
Hugs,
Betty Anne
I worked with Lynne for a number of years, she was a tremendous person. My deepest condolences to family and friends.
I’ve worked with Lynne for many years and I’m deeply saddened by her passing. She was an amazing lady and always full of fun. My sincere condolences to the family and friends, of which she had many.
Lynne was an amazing contributor to the well being of the students and families at Oaklands Elementary School. Always providing insights and finding creative ways to assess and assist families she was an integral part of School-Based-Team meetings. I remember these and other things but the most important element for me was that Lynne always had the courage to do the right thing even when systems might have counseled otherwise.

So sorry to hear of Lynne Anne’s passing. We are glad that we had the opportunity to visit with Lynne Anne and her mother last March at Sannich. We had a very enjoyable afternoon with lots of memories shared of the times in Palmer. Our prayers and thoughts are with you at the time.

What a loss this is to all of us who knew and loved Lynne Anne!
Our friendship began in Grade 9 at SHA and carried on to Winnipeg where we trained at different Hospitals…eventually I ended up in Victoria, which was great, as we lived close to each other. This girl had more patience, spirit and fortitude than anyone I know and she did this with a smile and never ever complained once.I regret that our last high school reunion somehow slipped past the 5 year mark so I didn’t see her in that time but we sure had some pretty long phone conversations..mostly about kids, the good old days and the Blue Jays….Sure wish i could have gotten her down here for a game! Love to the boys and the rest of the family. You are all in my thoughts…I am honoured to have known your Mother and Sister. Love Diane.
