July 3, 1926 – November 18, 2011
The matriarch of our family, our beautiful mother has left us to be with the love of her life. Mom was born in Aylesbury, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter (Buck) Johnston in 1994; her daughter, Sharon McNeil in 2003 and her son, Todd in 2004. She will be deeply missed by her son, Rick (Rosemarie) and her daughters, Doneen and Alana Sue; her son-in-law, Dave McNeill; her brothers, Bob and Fred Harrison; her precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and other family members. Mom was a very kind, caring and loving person, who loved life and nothing was more important to her than her family, she was the best mother and grandmother. Mom was a great seamstress, knitter and cook and she loved to dance and whistle. Mom was an inspiration to all of us in her courageous struggle with dementia. Thank you so much to Oak Bay Lodge Staff and Day Care Centre Staff for their caring for our Mom, she loved you all.
A Celebration of Mom’s Life will be held in the Spring, an announcement will be put in the paper. In lieu of flowers, if desired, please send donations in Mom’s name to the Alzheimer Society of B.C., # 202 – 306 Burnside Rd. W., Victoria, B.C. V8Z 1M1. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

OUR LOVE AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU AT THIS TIME OF PAIN. WE WERE SO HAPPY WE MADE IT DOWN TO HER 85TH, WE HAD SUCH A LOVELY AND FUN TIME WITH HER.
THIS LOVING WOMAN IS NOW WITH HER FAMILY ON THE OTHER SIDE, WHERE THERE IS NO SUFFERING.
Doneen, Sue and family, I’m so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom.
I was just little when you moved away, but I remember your family, and the most beautiful scented roses you had growing in your yard.
I’m sure your mom is enjoying all things beautiful in heaven now. Doneen and Sue, my sister (Sharon Macdonald) told me how difficult your mom’s illness was, and how diligent you were in lovingly taking care of her. She would be so proud of the lovely daughters you are, and her entire family. God bless you,
Elizabeth Holcomb (Aubry)
RIP Nana… Thank you for treating me like your granddaughter ever since I met Ryan… You were a wonderful woman. I love you so much. Rest in Peace…
Some names just go together, like Romeo & Juliet, Anthony & Cleopatra, Buck & Rose. Buck’s dad, many years ago said, “When the Man upstairs calls me, I have to go”. Buck was called and now Rose has crossed that river.
Our thoughts go out to Rick, Neen ,Alana Susan, the McNeils and the Harrisons at their time of sorrow but I like to think the pain will be eased at the thought of the joyous reunion of Buck and Rose, together forever and with Sharon and Todd and other family who have gone ahead.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family in the loss of such a sweet and caring lady. Although, Rose was my ex-mother-in-law, her choice was for me to call her “Mom”, that’s the kind of unconditional love she had for everyone. In the past fifteen years we have laughed at our past and present itocracies and shed a few tears over happy and sad happenings in our lives when we met many times at her favorite coffee bar, at which she’s greet us with a big hug as if we hadn’t met for years. One memory that comes to mind now is dropping the frozen Christmas turkey and startling the tenant below. Feel proud Neen and Alana for all the loving care you gave to your Mom … You will miss her tremendously but know that you girls are so like the best part of your Mom.
A “rose” now blooms on the other side !
Miss you tons !! Hugs
