Phyllis passed into the presence of the Lord, just 2 months shy of her 95th birthday.
She will be remembered with so much love by her son, Bruce Aitken (Val); daughters,  Sandra Sanderson (John) and Wendy Aitken; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great- grandchildren.

Phyllis was a Victoria native, the 4th of 7 children of John and May Stewart. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Clement in 1997 and five of her siblings.  She is survived by younger sister, Jeanie Cooke;  sister-in-law, Maureen Stewart and sister-in-law, Wilma Finlayson (George).

Phyllis will be “forever remembered and often quoted” by her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends. She has been a tremendous example of a person who loved her Lord Jesus, and sought to honour Him in all she did.

We would like to express our thanks to Dr. Keith McQueen, Heidi and Royal Oak VIHA for all their excellent care and support.

A family burial will be held at Royal Oak Burial Park. A celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held at McCall’s Downtown, 1400 Vancouver St. (Johnson and Vancouver Streets) in Victoria, B.C. on Saturday, April 16 at 2:30 pm.  Please join us for refreshments and fellowship following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “The Gideon’s”.

Bruce, Sandra, and Wendy my condolences. Cherish the memories—your mom was an encourager, a wonderful ambassador for her Lord and Saviour. Her comment when my mom entered eternity last month reminds me of the song we sang as young children—“Away far beyond Jordan, we’ll meet in that land, that beautiful land…just wait for me, I’m coming, too.”

  • Gerry Woloshyn

Sorry to hear about your mom Bruce. I lost my mom 2 years ago and my dad 2 months ago so I understand the sorrow you’re going through.

Only one founding family left on Kamloops St. The Kerrs.

We share in the deep range of emotion surrounding the passing from this life to true life of dear Phyllis. Sorrow as we have to say “see you later”, to great joy knowing who she is with and where she is. To us she was a clear example of a follower of our Lord Jesus Christ. Someone who was conforming to His image. We are grateful for having been able to know her and experience her love and care.
