September 1, 1923 April 13, 2013

The eldest son of William (Billy) and Norma Brown. Dad was predeceased by his brother, Ray; sisters, Barbara and Patty. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marjie and their four children, Ken (Jennifer), Kathy (Eric), Heather (Duncan) and Paul (Zuzana); grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He spent two years in the Air Force during WWII and went to UBC upon his return graduating with a B.Com. He and his family moved from Vancouver to Victoria in 1965 to take on the challenge of establishing the BC Medical plan. He was a key figure in the plan and he took great pride in his role. Dad was passionate about golf and the eternal quest for the perfect swing. He always enjoyed good conversation accompanied with the occasional chocolate bar. He and Marjie travelled extensively but he was always happy to be home in “the best city in the world.” Dad was a very content man who always saw the good in everyone and his happiest times were spent with his family. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten.

The family will be holding a private memorial in honour of his wishes. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

    Mr Brown (as he was always called) was a great boss. Always had a good word for everyone. I’m sure he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. From a former BCMed employee, circa 1968.

    I am sadden to hear one our best clients of Mcdermid, Miller & Mcdermid has passed. Alan was our client with the late colleague of mine, Mr. Alan Snell when I was a young broker there in 1980’s. Even tho, I was never his broker, Alan and I became good friends for many years. Although I had left Mcdermids and joined Scotiamcleod ten years after, we would see each other passing on the streets and exchange our pleasantries. I remember Alan as the most kindest and caring person anyone could meet. He always ask me how I was and how was the family and I always returned the question how was retirement and of course hows the the family too? Henry, everyone is fine and its just wonderful he would reply about the retirement years, no more decisions, no more fighting with management. I’m a free man who can do and go as he pleases. Thats how I remember Alan. A gentleman, a father, a friend and a not bad stock picker as far as I remembered. I will miss him and my thoughts are also with the family of Mr. Brown.

    Mrs Brown, Paul and family;

    Quite sad to hear about Al. All of our gang has good memories of him throughout the years. There are plenty of stories and anecdotes which typify the patience he exhibited when Paul and his friends would gather at the family home and inevitably some form of mish-mash or a scheme would develop and he would have to get involved. Paul, your Dad (and Mom) were always quite gracious to have us into their home, despite the fridge door being opened too often! Please know that my thoughts are with the family.

    P.S. I always thought his silver Cougar was the coolest car. I believe he quite enjoyed driving that one.
