December 14, 1917 – January 1, 2011

Dad passed on peacefully just before midnight on January 1st surrounded by his family, Susan, Sam and Jennifer, who all loved him dearly and will miss him so very much. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Josephine of 50 years in 1993. He is survived by his loving daughter, Susan; son-in-law, Sam Taylor; grandson, Jonathan; granddaughter, Jennifer; her husband, Christian Love and great-granddaughters Ellarie and Arawyn Love. He is also survived by his son, David (Beth) and grandchildren, Matthew, Adrian and Rosie. Before graduation from Mt. View High School in 1937, Dad was captain of several soccer teams and went on to win many first place trophies. Later, he joined the Canadian Navy during WWII and became a Chief Petty Officer. Over the years, Dad built 28 homes on his own, including one for his family on Gibbs Road. He figured he worked on about 150 homes in the Greater Victoria area, doing remodels and being a foreman with several local contractors until he retired in 1981. During his retirement, he and Mom travelled to many places. He loved playing golf (3 holes in one!), playing bridge with friends and travelling in his Camero to visit Susan and her family many times each year to celebrate each holiday, birthday and special occasion together. Susan and Sam would like to thank the staff at the Lodge at Broadmead for all their loving care and patience during Dad’s stay. A special thanks also to John and Ellen Newman who were always such generous caring friends to both Mom and Dad throughout the years.

At Dad’s request, there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

We’re so sorry to see Uncle Bert go. He was a part of our lives, as was Auntie Jo (Josephine Perri Politano), David and Susan. Will always cherish the times our families spent together, and remember him as he appeared in his Navy dress whites in WWII-era picture – now that’s Italian! God bless.

Susan and Sam this was such a beautiful memorial, beautiful but sad at the same time to be reading it. Beautiful for a Beautiful Man. I never knew that about him playing soccer, how did I miss that? xoxoxox Lynda and Doug
