June 4, 1921 – January 26, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving Mother, Alice Caroline Thirlwall. Predeceased by her husband Harold Leslie Thirlwall, Alice is survived by her daughter Janice; son. Donald (Brenda); grandsons Ryan (Andrea) and Christopher; great grandchildren Chloe, Gabby and Tyler.
Born June 4,1921 in Fort Frances, Alice was very proud to have served as a Flight Sergeant in the Royal Canadian Air Force 1942 -1950. She spent her past time enjoying watching Tennis and Curling and recently the arrival of her great granddaughter Chloe born December 2, 2009.
Alice (Chick Baby) will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Alice was like a banana, firm on the outside, mushy on the inside. Her passing will forever be embraced.
A special thank you to Oak Bay Lodge, Dr A C Swan and the nurses at 2 West, Royal Jubilee Hospital during this very difficult time.
There will be a celebration of Alice’s life at Sequoia Gardens Memorial, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in her memory.

Sitting here missing you Grandma. not a day goes by where you don’t cross my mind. I will forever cherish you in my heart and soul. I’m 31 years old now and wouldn’t you know I became a father again. Her name is Audrey Caroline Nicole Thirlwall. yes Grandma had to get Caroline in there after you. I work insanely hard to try and make the world a more positive and much happier place for people and I just hope that you’d only ever be proud of me. I love you and thank you for everything you gave me…knowledge, confidence, belief, faith and of course love and family.
love always – Ryan Leslie Thirlwall

    sorry for your loss

I’m working on a family tree which includes the “Thirlwall” name. Our tree includes a Harold Thirlwall who married Daisie Stokes and they both die in Victoria BC. Harold had a brother Arthur Leslie Thirlwall who married Opal Holifer. They divorced but Arthur died in Burnaby, BC. Because Alice’s late husband’s name was Harold Leslie, I wondered if there was any connection. Would be glad to hear from you.
    Mnat thanks,
    Linda D.

    Janice
My heatfelt sympathies to you for the loss of your mother Alice.
I am the daughter of Kenneth & Betty Hill and the grand daughter of Cleo Aitken. I visited last Alice about 5 years ago, and we had tea and chatted about genealogy, of which I am very much into. It was nice to see her again after a such a long time. She showed me many treasures she had, one in particular a gold pocket watch engraved with my great grandmothers name Velena Leveille on it. She was patient with me as I asked her many questions about our family history of the Thirlwalls and the Levelles’. She was quite the lady I must say, full of vim and vigor and vitality. She was very proud of her grandson Ryan, and I feel sure that you are also. I am sure that your family will miss her greatly. Although I have not seen you for years Janice, I just wanted to send my condolances.
    Sharon

My thoughts are with you during this time.
    Hopi Prayer
    -author unknown

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint in the snow.
I am the sunlight on the ripened grain.
I am the autumn’s gentle rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush.
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
    Do not stand at my grave and cry;
    I am not there,
    I did not die.
