It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alida Passarini on October 18, 2009, surrounded by her family, of a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Left grief-stricken, sister Renza, brother in law Nigel, treasured nephews Zak and Connor, and the beloved family dog Harley. Left to mourn are relatives and friends in Trail, Italy and Vancouver especially Cousins Marisa and Lawrence. She was predeceased by father Ermenegildo (1982), mother Ada (2004), and brother Renzo (1953). Born in Treviso. Italy on September 16, 1947 and immigrated to Trail, B.C. in 1953. After completing her education, she worked for 32 years for West Kootenay Power and Light. Upon retirement, she moved to Victoria (1999) to be closer to her sister and family. Began work at Sears as a beauty advisor and made many good friends through work and at the gym where she was a regular fixture. Alida lived for her family and cherished her time spent with them, especially her two beloved nephews. ‘It was all about the boys.’ One of the highlights of her life was returning to Italy after a 50 year absence; she forged a strong bond with her many relatives. She left a distinct impact on all she met which was evident in the overwhelming support she received during her illness. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. M. Vaughan and his wife Denise and family for their continued support throughout this harrowing ordeal. A special thanks to Laurie Wahl who always reminded her to ‘breathe in breathe out’ and to the many friends that gave so generously of their love and time. Many thanks to the B.C. Cancer Agency doctors and staff especially Drs. Lupe and Halloway, and to all the nurses and staff at Hospice. She is at peace now but we are all left with a huge hole in our hearts that can never be filled. Miss you forever-sweet sister.
No funeral by request. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Hospice in Alida’s memory would be appreciated. A celebration of life will be held at the Uplands Golf Club on November
22, 2009 from 2:00-5:00 p.m.

My dear Renza and Nigel and family,
I was shocked to read of Alida’s sudden passing, especially when I saw you only a short month or so ago. When I talked to both of you on various trips, you would always comment on how grateful you were to Alida for her support and great presence. As I observed your deep concern, care and support for Alida when I bumped into you, I sensed the blessing she must have felt to all of you for your support and great presence.
May the exquisite beauty that Alida exuded on so many levels, continue to inspire you daily and help to fill the huge void that she has left behind.
Much love, Hedy
Thinking of you Renza, Nigel and family and your loss. From the first time I met Alida, her friendly, welcoming and vibrant nature was evident.

It was a pleasure to have known Alida. A beautiful woman and amazing person. I will miss her very much.
My first job was at Sears and Alida was one of the first coworkers that I met. Usually running late, I would run by the cosmetics counters and up the escalator on the way to my department…however this strategy never worked when Alida was working. She encouraged me to take time for myself, and over the years through our 5 minute conversations she taught me about her life.
When my niece was born in 2007, Alida was one of the first to congratulate my sister and our family. She shared so many beautiful stories of her family(especially her nephews), that I felt as if I had known her for many years.
Her strength will always be inspirational to me, and I feel blessed to have even known her.
I know firsthand that she loved her family more than anything else in life; her love and spirit will always be with you.
Please accept my sincere condolences,
Julia Bates

Renza and Nigel,
My deepest sympathy’s to you. Alida was a very very special person and will stay close to my heart forever. I met her in 2000 when I was 17 years old working at Sears, we clicked instantly. She bacame the person i went to and told everything to. She would always give her honest opinion whether I wanted to hear it or not!! For that I loved her. I thank goodness that a few months ago Alida got to meet and hold my baby daughter.
Alida’s nephews meant the world to her, they were all she ever talked about to me. They were #1 in her books.
Please know your family is in my thoughts and Alida will be greatly missed.

Dear sister of Alida
She spoke of you often and of course her beloved nephews Zak and Connor. She will be so missed by her family and many friends and co-workers.
Several years ago I worked with Alida in the Cosmetic Department at Sears. She never said an unkind word about anyone, She was always very humorous and upligting and fun to work with. I know the girls are going to miss her terribly.
Life is short. We must cherish the time we have here with our family and friends. Alida would have said the same and I know she cherished and loved you Renza. So to you and Nigel, her wonderful nephews, to her beloved Harley and other family….I am so sorry she is gone so soon. My condolences. Peace to all of you and now may she too rest in Peace.
