Allan Stewart Arneil, born in Glasgow Scotland March 8 1925, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2011. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at the Victoria Hospice for all of their care in Allan’s final weeks. He is survived by his wife, of 55 years, Dora; children Catherine (Tom MacDonald), Stewart (Shelley Gilmour), Barbara (Doug Reimer); grandchildren Emily (Sverre Skarstein), Colin, Claire, Katie-Anne; brother Gavin Arneil (June); sister Isobel Marshall and his four legged friends, Oslo, Lizzie, and Denby. Allan came to Canada in 1952 and worked in public health in several BC cities. He loved chocolate, bright colours, precision in all his work, punctuality and the mystery of the weather. He was a passionate gardener and many passers-by will have enjoyed the extraordinary display of chrysanthemums in his front garden. He was very proud of his Scottish heritage and Canadian citizenship and devoted many years of public service to his chosen land, characterized by his good humor and integrity. Following his retirement in 1988, Allan proudly served 20 years as archivist for St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

No flowers, please. Donations, if desired, may be made to Victoria Hospice Society or St. Andrew’s Kirk. Private family gathering will be held. Enjoy the taste of an ice cream or the smell of a rose in his memory.
