Last Bucket List Wish

A week before he passed, Al fulfilled his final bucket list wish when his Grandson Shaun took him for a ride in a classic Corvette. He said “It was FANTASTIC”.

After a full life, Al slipped away peacefully surrounded by family and friends.

That day an angel flew away.

There are not enough ways to say

how you graced us every day.

We will miss you terribly.

Give Grandma and baby Lorraine a big hug from us.

Until we meet again, rest in peace Dad, Papa, Papa Papa

We Love You. XOX

Al was born and grew up in Chartersville, New Brunswick. He joined the Army during WWII and spent five years overseas where he met and married his wife, Joan.  Back on Canadian soil, Al decided to join the Air Force and spent another 20 years in the service until he retired in 1970.

After a second career as Director of Dietary for two hospitals in Windsor, Ontario, Al retired again in 1987 and he and Joan moved to Victoria to be closer to their daughter and her family.

Al had a competitive spirit and always enjoyed sports such as curling, golf, table tennis and horseshoes. (At 85 he won a Canadian Horseshoe championship for his division in Halifax). Even in his final days no one could beat him at Crokinole.

Al is predeceased by his wife, Joan; daughter, Lorraine;  sister, Ethel and brothers,  Lloyd and Ben.  He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Taylor and son-in-law Bud;  grandsons Shaun (Karlyn) and Scot (Leah) and great grandchildren, Koby, Sage, Elladee, Dawson, Ewan and Dempsey, and special nephew, Al Charters (Georgie).

Sincerest thanks to all the wonderful caregivers at Home Instead, Beacon and Hospice for enabling him to remain at home, as he wished.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, July 10th, 2016 from 1:00–4:00 pm at the Victoria Horseshoe Club, 620 Kenneth St.   P.S. If you have a tie, please wear it in memory of Al.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice in Al’s memory.
