Lou passed away peacefully on October 31, 2016 in Victoria, B.C. Lou was born on January 1,1936 in Waldstetten. They broke the mold when they let Lou into Canada. Lou arrived in Canada when he was 19 years old with a rucksack on his back, and managed to build a legacy. Lou and his wife Peggy started a Texaco station; then in 1969, he acquired Douglas Volkswagen. In 1984, he opened Victoria Hyundai, and quickly built it to be the #1 dealership in Western Canada. Lou opened Mayfair Saturn Saab Isuzu in 1988, which was his last franchise, until retiring in 1996. He was a successful business man, but more importantly he was a loving husband to Peggy and a father to Liz (Don), and JD (Kelly) and grandsons Jake and Tyler. He will be missed by his many sisters, nieces and nephews in Germany.
Lou had friends all over the world in which he shared many adventures with from hunting on the prairies, fishing in the Queen Charlotte’s, driving across Africa, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, or canoeing down the Yukon River. Lou was a great story teller and he had the adventures to go with them. Lou was one of a kind and if you were lucky to have known him, you were his friend.
There will be a Celebration of Life at 2:00 pm on Monday November 7, 2016 at the Fireside Grill, 4509 West Saanich Rd, Victoria, B.C.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Heart and Stroke foundation http://rthfoundation.org/donate/.

ANNE SCOTT I met Lou in the early 1970’s thru my ex-husband…he was such a gentleman and we remained friends throughout the years though mutual friends. He was such an interesting man and enjoyed life to the fullest. I am sadden by his passing.
May he rest in peace. God Bless Him.

Dolores Stevens Peggy, saddened to read of Lou’s death. Understand he had been very ill for some time, however that doesn’t make your loss and that of your family any the less poignant. Please accept our heartfelt condolences.
When you are feeling up to a get together with “the gals”, let me know and I’ll be happy to arrange it . Dolores

Phyllis Parker Thinking of you at this time Peg, sending hugs and love to you and your family.
I bought my first Beetle from Lou when he was still at the Texaco Station, before I was able to drive. I was experiencing some kind of blockage during the driving lessons. Lou asked Peggy to see if she could fathom my difficulty; she took me out in the car a couple of times, and I passed the driver’s test first time round. I bought my second Beetle, this time a new 1973 model, from Douglas Volkswagen, which my nephew inherited when I could no longer drive. To Peggy and family, I have never forgotten the kindness and generosity of yourself and Lou, and trust you find comfort in remembering a very find gentleman.
Sincerely,
Phonyin Tim.
