This was my great grandma I never knew her that well, looking back I wish I saw her more from what I remember she was a wonderful person and I wish she was still here.

Back in the late 1950’s I used to pincurl Mrs. Shumka hair once a week for 75 cents. It was a big deal for me as I was around 15 yrs old. My mom, Gertrude Mactier was born the same year as Ann and they both went to the same school in Yorkton, Sask., so my mother was pretty surprized to find that Ann lived so close to us in Victoria. Later on I took sewing lessons at the Singer Sewing Machine store from Mrs. Shumka and she also sold me my first sewing machine. A top of the line Singer Slant-o-matic for $500. I used that machine for 43 years! My sister Lynne sent this obituary to me as I live in Campbell River. Rick, I am very sorry to hear of your mom’s passing and also Johnny’s passing. Far too young.

I originally knew Anne as Mrs. Shumka. She taught a sewing class that I was in one summer in my teens. But, more to the point, she was a very good friend of my Mother, Anne Keays whom my Mother spoke very highly of.. Mom passed in 1996 in Victoria. My thoughts and prayers go out to you at this time.

We would like to pass on our deepest condolence for your lose of such a warm and cheerful lady. Even thou we only knew Anne for a short time, she was a wonderful friend and room mate to our mother Mary Hambley at the lodge. I would often stop in there to chat on my way out from visiting Mom, she would talk of her Great Grandchildren and how much she enjoyed it when they visited. The sun is a little dimmer but the sky just got a whole lot brighter with her shinning down on us. Sorry we will not be able to pay our respects in person due to work commitments but know our thoughts and prayers are with your whole family.
