In Loving Memory of Antonio (Tony) Masi.
Peacefully, on April 17, 2025, Antonio “Tony” Masi passed away at The Summit in Quadra Village at the age of 79, surrounded by the love of his family. Beloved husband of Josie (née Pasta) Masi, Tony was a loving husband, father, nanno, brother, and friend.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and laughter that will continue to live on in the hearts of his children Joe Masi (Jaime Norrie) and Theresa (Darren) Booth, and in the bright smiles of his grandchildren, Kira and Colton, who were truly the joy of his life.
Tony is lovingly remembered by his sister Angie (Mario) Fiorentino, his brother Dr. Ralph Masi, and sister-in-law Angie Masi. He was predeceased by his parents, Giuseppe and Maria Masi, and by his cherished brother Frank Masi. He will be dearly missed by his many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and the countless friends who were lucky enough to know him.
Born on April 16, 1946, in Amato, a small town in Calabria, Italy, Tony immigrated to Canada in 1954 with his family, settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Among the first of his generation of Italian immigrants to graduate from university, Tony earned his degree in engineering in 1969 and went on to become a respected Civil Engineer.
He spent most of his career with VK Mason and CANA Construction, contributing to landmark projects across Western Canada — from dams and tunnels to towering buildings in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Calgary, and Vancouver Island. Many of the structures he helped bring to life still stand today, silent testaments to his dedication and skill.
Tony was known for his warm heart and friendly spirit — a man who lit up every room he entered and left laughter in his wake. His love for life was evident in the simple joys he embraced: a shared meal, a spirited debate with Ralph or Mario, or whistling a tune with his keys jingling at his side — earning him the affectionate nickname “Uncle Jingles.”
He faced his final years with courage and grace, never dwelling on illness, but instead savoring every sunrise, every moment with family, and every chance to smile. Family, for Tony, was everything — the reason to get up each day and the greatest joy of his life.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 2191 Townsend Rd, Sooke, BC, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Pallbearers will be nephews Ryan Pasta, Marlon Pasta, Mike Pasta, James Pasta, Stefano Pasta, and Nick Portman.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Tony’s memory may be made to the Victoria Hospitals Foundation. https://www.justgiving.com/page/tony-masi-1
The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to all the staff at the Summit.
Rest now, our Superman. You have earned your rest — not because the journey is over, but because you have seen your family home.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Joe Pasta My first recollection of Tony was as one of the alter boys at Holy Rosaries in Winnipeg before sister Josie got to know him and end up marrying. Many of you recall his memorable “uncle jingles” persona that we all loved. The other memorable event that I have retold dozens of times was the crab fishing event in Sooke where Tony and brother in law Mario and I decided to put the crab net out via a canoe a few hundred feet from shore. After waiting sufficient time to let the net fill up with many crabs Tony was the adventurous guy to go and get the trap out. As he pulled the great load of crabs he fell in with the net. I went out to fish him out I couldn’t see him and all I could think was my sister (Josie) was going to kill me for letting him go out by himself. Well it all turned out ok and probably was number 9 of his many lives he escaped
Tony we will miss you. Love you brother in law Joe

Gina Aiello I have great memories of my big cousin Tony that I will cherish always. Being first cousins, we are 22 years apart, but Tony always had a special ability to relate to me. Any visits with Tony over the years began with a great big smile, a tight warm hug followed by “how are you doing sweetheart”? We had robust conversations, and his advice was always to do the things in life that made me happy. I always admired Tony’s tenacity and how he really lived life his way. To you my cousin, I dedicate Frank Sinatra’s famous “My Way” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pcwq2usV7Y

Sue Pasta Tony was certainly someone who loved life. Always happy and laughing no matter what the situation. Truly a devoted family man, husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Yes the keys jangling hung to the outside of his pants you knew Uncle Jingles had arrived. Falling asleep in his recliner was his favourite end of the day pastime.
We pass in our love and condolences to Josie, his children, grandchildren and the rest of his family
Rest in peace we will love you forever

Shelley Pasta Delfino Uncle Tony was a legend. Always smiling, always laughing, and somehow always falling asleep in a recliner—mouth wide open, snoring like a chainsaw—right in the middle of family chaos. It wasn’t a real get-together until Tony started snoring.
Being around him was like signing up for an adventure you didn’t know you needed. One minute your on a boat (that likely shouldn’t have been on the water) catching a shark, the next he was falling headfirst into the ocean while trying to retrieve crab traps. He had a special talent for turning even the simplest day into something you’d talk about for years.
His laugh could fill a room, his stories were never short, and his heart was even bigger than his personality (and that’s saying something). He brought joy, adventure, and so much love.
Thank you for the laughs, the love, and the unforgettable memories, Uncle Tony. You were truly one of a kind.

Victor Pasta We will cherish his memory for years to come. He made real impact on the family and friends, generously lending his skills to help people with anything they needed in the way of construction and renovation.
He was often called on to help with plumbing or electrical or framing and drywalling, and he did it all and never asked for a penny in return.
He had a big heart.
We will miss him.
We are so sorry to hear of uncle Tony’s passing, he and his easy laugh will be missed. We are unable to attend the service this weekend but are sending strength and love to Josie, Theresa, Joe (and your families, especially the grandkids).
Lots of love, Morgan and Boyan Lesov.
