Art passed away peacefully on March 4, 2016. He was born at Dundurn, Saskatchewan on October 4, 1920. He married Olive Griffith of Saskatoon on June 13, 1942. Their marriage took place here in Victoria while Art was enrolled in Officer Training at Gordon Head. After returning from Europe where he served in the Canadian Army from 1943 to 1946, he completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Saskatchewan. Art and Olive with their 3 children moved to Victoria in 1956, where he was Executive Director of the United Way for many years. In the 1970’s, Art went into the Wholesale Travel business with his son, Jim. Art and Olive had a busy and happy retirement traveling to Europe, Hawaii and Lummi Island for many years. He enjoyed gardening and golfing with his many friends at Uplands Golf Club.
Art was predeceased by Olive, after 60 years of marriage; his son, Bill; brother, Tom; sister, Edna and close friend, Peggy Maycock. He is survived by his brother, Bill; son, Jim (Pam); daughter, Lynette (Garth); daughter-in-law, Doneen and grandchildren, Lauren, Selina, Ian, Sara, Andrea, Bill, Matt; nieces, Kathy and Jacqui and relatives in Saskatoon.
Many thanks for their loving care to Sally, Paz, Manoel and Don and the kind and competent staff at Selkirk Place, the Royal Jubilee and Dr. Philip Kelly.
An informal memorial gathering will be held at the Uplands Golf Club on Sunday, March 20, 2016, at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Way.
