March 26, 1913 – January 20, 2011

Sadly we announce the passing of Audrey at Victoria Hospice on the morning of January 20, 2011. She was a much loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who devoted her adult life to her home and family. Mum, who was a native Victorian, will be greatly missed by all.

She was a member of the Uplands Golf Club for over 50 years and enjoyed many rounds of golf, social activities and wonderful trips with her beloved Harold and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold (2009) and her sister Daphne (2010). Survived by her loving daughter, Pam (Monty) and son Ian (Carol), grandchildren John (Shaunna), Kari-Anne (Gord), Heidi (Tim) and Erik, six great-grandchildren, 2 nieces and 1 nephew.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Geoff Inman for his knowledgeable care of mum and the supportive care she received from the girls at Beacon Home Services over the past few years, who in some cases became friends to mum. To “We Care” and most recently to Sidney Senior Care, a huge thank you for being there when needed. Thanks also goes to the Oak Bay Lodge Daycare program for their support and help with mum. Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful Hospice Home Team who visited mum three times weekly for the past year. You all helped us to keep her home until she went to Hospice. Finally, for the compassionate care mum received while at Hospice….thank you so much.

A Celebration of Life will be held in MCCALL BROS. FAMILY CENTRE, Johnson & Vancouver Streets on Saturday, February 26, 2011 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations kindly accepted to the charity of choice. Condolences may be offered at www.mccallbros.com.

To the loved ones in Audreys Family, I send you my deepest sympathy.
In life we meet many people. And I believe certain people we meet in our lives our brought to us by God for a reason. Sometimes you form special friendships and they develop into love.
I first met Audrey five years ago and we spent almost every week together for the last five years. I was her CHW but we had so much in common to share. We would sit at her kitchen table and look outside at her beautiful garden that Harold cared for. And we would talk and laugh and share wonderful conversations. She always made me smile and made my day special as I went to her for two hours in the morning. It was my pleasure to care for her.
She was gentle, sweet, caring, loving and a beautiful woman who loved her husband and was so very proud of her family.
When she became ill I went to visit her in the hospice and spent a little time with her each day. One visit we had a wonderful talk and I asked her :Audrey , when you look back upoun your life, do you feel you had a good life”, and she looked at me with her beautiful blue eyes and replied “Oh yes Jennie, I have had the most beautiful happy life”. I said to her that was such a blessing.
I will carry her in my heart forever.. I loved her very much, and was so blessed to know Audreys family who are loving and kind, and took such great care of her.
Take care. I send you my compassion and my sympathy.
I am praying for you and wish you peace and comfort. She has brightened up heaven with her presence and is with Harold now whom she loved so very much , and missed.

    Love always,

    Jennie

I was very sorry to read about your Mom passing away. She was a wonderful, thoughtful lady who was always kind to me when we lived in Oak Bay. While there is no way for others to take away the pain of your loss, may you both, Ian and Pam, and your families find comfort in knowing you are thought of and wished the strength you need to see you through this time of sorrow. Our sincere condolences to all. Very sorry we will not be able to attend your Moms Celebration of Life as we will be down south for the winter. John and Carole Biggs
