September 13, 1914 – January 22, 2009

It is with great sadness that her family announces the death of Marg Bridgeman, age 94 years, in Glengarry Hospital, Victoria. Marg was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack; parents John and Lucy Francis; brothers Lloyd, Manley and Tom; sister-in-law Peggy Francis; brother-in-law Dick Bridgeman and his wife, Joey; as well as other Bridgeman siblings, nieces and nephews. Marg is survived by her brother Phil Francis and his wife, Jean, of Battleford, Sask; nieces Linda Dustan Selinger (Patrick) of Brandon, Man., and Marilyn Francis (Detlef Friedrich) of Berlin, Germany; great-nieces Leanne Dustan of Gatineau, Que., Lori Dustan Lafond (Darrell) and their daughters Ayla and Riley of Winnipeg, Man., and Lisa Dustan of Montreal, Que.; cousin Teddy Warrick and his wife, Jan, of Summerset, Bath, England. She is also survived by nephew Don Bridgeman (Marilyn) of Lachine, Que., and niece Shirley Bridgeman Fair (George) of Newnan, Georgia, and all of their children and families.
Born and raised on Norton Farm in the Cleveland/Lindequist district west of Battleford, Saskatchewan, Marg later trained as a nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, Sask. After graduation she worked at the Royal Vic for a time before returning home to care for her family, combining that with nursing work in the Battlefords — privately and at the local hospital. In 1946 she accepted the position of Matron at the hospital in Turtleford, Sask. One of the first people she met in Turtleford was Jack Bridgeman, a local businessman. They married on September 15, 1947.
In early 1956 Marg and Jack “retired” to British Columbia and after a few months in Vancouver, happily settled in Victoria. Marg continued her nursing career — first at St. Joseph’s Hospital, then Victoria General, from which she retired in 1973. Jack worked as a Commissionaire at Rocky Point until a few years before his death on June 1, 1968.
Marg had a great many friends and maintained a huge written correspondence throughout Canada and abroad. She loved Victoria and Vancouver Island — truly thought of it as paradise. She enjoyed taking a daily walk through Cook Street Village and meeting and greeting people. For many years Marg was a faithful member of St.Michaels and All Angels Anglican Church, Royal Oak. Over the years she enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and watching sports, especially curling and football (particularly the Saskatchewan Roughriders!) She will always be remembered as a loving sister and aunt, a good neighbour, a kind and thoughtful friend.
Heartfelt thanks to all the caregivers and staff on Chandler Unit at Glengarry Hospital. Thank you and much love to those who visited and cared for Marg, especially during the last few months, among them Dave and Sue, Linda McNayr and Kelby McNayr, Audrey Suttie, Wayne and Donna Watson, Bernice Charters. To you and to others not particularly mentioned here, your friendship was a precious thing to Marg and you held a special place in her heart.
