With husband of 52 years Scott at her side, Barbara passed away at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Hospice in the early morning. She loved and was loved by her many friends and family including sister Geraldine Yates, cousin Max Piercey, cousin Blake McGuffie, brother/sister-in-law Victor/Carole Summerfeldt, Nephews/Nieces Skye/Julie, Nathan/Daniela, and Kieran/Nalisha.
She received much joy from seeing images of great nephews and nieces when in-person visits were not possible. She also enjoyed a variety of music but would most likely have a CD of Michael Franks playing in her car. Interests in fashion, art, and food were forefront but a morbid predilection for true murder was also well in the mix. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh and loved “all the little animals”, her fur babies, as she liked to call them.
Thanks to the many doctors, nurses and care workers at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, the Saanich Peninsula Hospital, and the in-home palliative care teams and home care team for their amazing work ethic and exceptional regard for their patient’s care. Also, thanks to friends and family for their support. It was all deeply appreciated.
Please consider donating to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital and Healthcare Foundation or the BC Cancer Foundation in her memory.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Teddii Sending our condolences to Scott and family…
I worked with Barb at the CI, over 50 years ago. She was my “Punny Buddy”, which I’m sure wasn’t as humourous to our office collegues as it was to us. She remains in my memory as an awesome human as I was richer for knowing. May the memory of her laughter and beautiful smile guide you through troubled times…
Love & Peace, Teddii and Merv Schmit

Fay Mallett Deepest sympathies to Scott and family. I worked with Barb at the Public Service Commission many years ago. I then ran into her at Ophir Place where Scott’s mother was friends with my parents. She was a great lady.

Scott and Family
Time does not diminish some memories and I read where you lost Barbara. I recall some moments at the Dockyard where we had a few laughs, technical times and you were starting your career.
From reading Barb’s obituary it looks like you were a success in life and only unfortunate you lost your partner and best friend too early. I don’t think I met Barb but I do recall hearing about you getting married. Good to hear you had a good life.
It was a long time ago, we were younger, great aspirations and achieved.
I’m glad to know and recall that people I met and shared some time with have a chance to meet again, although not the best of situations.
Condolences in your loss.
