Barbara Schultz, 56, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019 surrounded by her family. After battling cancer for 8 months, she is now at peace eternally. Born on February 1, 1963 in New Westminster to Donald and Irene Fraser, Barbara completed grade school in Burnaby and graduated in pharmacy from UBC in 1987. She married Naval Officer, Michael Schultz, in 1990 and moved to Halifax where her four boys were born. She worked as a community pharmacist in Halifax and then in Victoria after the family was posted here in 1999. Barbara was known for always doing what was right and pursuing justice, as she constantly pushed boundaries to improve the quality of education and life for persons with disabilities. She was never satisfied until things were fair, and “fair does not always mean equal.” She advocated passionately for causes close to her heart which included a stint as the President of the Community Living Victoria Board of Directors. Barbara will be dearly missed for her caring nature, thoughtful intelligence, and dry sense of humour (which paired perfectly with her iconic laugh).
She is survived by her loving husband, Michael and their sons, Konrad, Trevor, Bradley and Matthew; as well as her mother, Irene; and her siblings, Elaine, Douglas, Gordon and Grant. Many other family and friends will mourn her loss in Canada and the United States.
Many thanks for the stellar care received at the Victoria Cancer Clinic, RJH Oncology Ward and Victoria Hospice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Saanich Baptist Church, 4347 Wilkinson Road, at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 29th, 2019.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Barbara’s memory to Community Living Victoria or Victoria Hospice.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

When first I met Barb was not sure how to take her, but turned out to be such a great loving and funny lady, she was also sensitive ,the time I gave her a birthday car with chocolate she almost cried, she told me all about her family, about her 4 sons, and husband in the Navy which I could relate to, she will be miss by a lot of people, My thoughts are with the family, will see you all on Friday Pierre
OMGoodness dearest Barb . I met you when our sons moved to Claremont from their respective middle schools . You and / or Mike and often Matthew were always in the bleachers as our kids pounded it out on the courts playing volleyball or basketball . As we got to know each other , i admired your tenacity , your sense of justice and your seeming ability to be in several places at once ! You held down a demanding job , navigated the school system , nurtured and supported your 4 sons ( a feat in itself – i only had 1 and it was hard going ! ) and the most wonderful part was that you revelled in it and were able to laugh that lovely laugh of yours . I also admired what i thought was the real partnership you had with Mike . You were an inspiration to me and despite the fact i have only seen you once since our boys graduated in 2014 , I have thought about you often . May you Rest In Peace friend – i will your 4 men in my heart always xxx théa
I worked with Barb on the Community Living Victoria Board for over a year and well remember her integrity, patience and authenticity, always shared with a smile. I am sorry for such a big loss to family and friends.
I went to high school with Barb. She was always friendly and had a welcoming smile. We shared many great chats together. We shared several classes together over the years, she was definitely a bright star. Barb and the family are in my heart and my prayers.
Dear Mike and Konrad, Trevor, Bradley, & Matthew… Such a sad loss and one that I know you will feel in the years to come, especially in moments when you wish you could turn to Barb for advice or to share your accomplishments and joy! Remember the good times, her laughter, her spirit, her pragmatism, her sense of justice, and how very proud she was of all of you – know that she’s still with you and watching over you, just from a different place. In quiet moments you’ll still feel her guiding hand and, if you listen carefully, her sage words. Barb is a cherished old friend for me – one of those few people in life who you could go for weeks, months, even years without speaking… then pick-up and talk & laugh (dare I say, honk?) like not a minute had passed! I will always remember her fondly. I wish all of you peace and hope you will feel the love and fellowship of those around you, near and far, who also had the privilege of knowing and loving Barb. Holding you in my thoughts, Tracie

Mike Konrad Trevor Bradley and Mathew I have been thinking of you all all week. Barb was a good friend to me and my sons Neil and Scott. I met Barb at Shoppers in Royal Oak many years ago. We spoke often and at times had coffee at your house after dropping everyone off at school. Barb helped me out when I needed help and we have good memories camping next to you all up island with the church.
I will miss Barb tremendously and I am very sad to hear she has passed away. Sending you all a huge hug.
Love Caroline Neil and Scott Mavridis
Barb was my weekend warrior pharmacist and a great friend. I can recall many great memories spent in her company and the world is a little dimmer without her in it.
I will never forget her and I will miss her greatly. My thoughts are with Mike and the boys during this time of sadness.
