June 8, 1933 – December 2, 2013

“Matriarch lost to family”, Bari left us to join her partner Bill (d.2008) and is survived by her three children Helen (Bruce) Clarke, Doug (Kelly) Robinson and Jennie Lynne Robinson. Each loved and supported their mother, but Jennie made the greatest sacrifice enabling Bari to receive her care at home.

Bari faced the ultimate challenge of diagnosis with Hep C in 1988 traced to tainted blood transfusions in the 1970s. Her courage and determination inspired family, friends and health professionals. Her choice to have a liver transplant in 1994 was a gamble and she stretched her time with a willingness to try many procedures to battle on.

Bari, though housebound, in her last years enjoyed the telephone and kept in touch with three generations of nieces and nephews in Florida, Colorado, Oregon, California and Washington, and in Canada from her birthplace Manitoba to Vancouver Island. All had a smile for their “Auntie Bari”.

Bari and Bill began their love for boating in Tod Inlet with their friends for life, often rafted together for weekends of fun, fishing and swimming. Bari in the midst of all this activity was known for her wit and grace. Bari’s family grew up onboard the “Consuelo” built by Bill in the backyard of their Cadboro Bay home. Bari’s most memorable times were on her boat tied up at Boozy Bay Marina with family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 11th 2014 from  2 PM to 5 PM at the Capital City Yacht Club, 10630 Blue Heron Road, Sidney BC, V8L 5S6

The family is grateful for the extraordinary care, compassion and encouragement shown by Dr. Laura Phillips.

Special thanks to Dr. Gaylene Hargrove, Victoria Hospice Palliative response team, Bayshore Home Health Care, BC Transplant & the SOTU at Vancouver General Hospital.

Further special thanks and gratitude go to Barb Campbell, CVR & Ute Flaig for your support & love not only to Bari but to the entire family & “Team Daisy”.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Transplant Society or The Kidney Foundation.

    Doug, Helen and Jennie,
Your mother was a gracious lady, fun to work with and it was my priviledge to have known her. My thoughts are with you all at this time, Sincerely
    Doreen

It was with sadness I heard about Bari. At the same time it is a comfort to know she is at peace after a long courageous struggle. We were neighbours for all those years that you, Doug, Jennie and Helen, were growing up. So many memories not least of all the day the “Consuelo” was ready to leave your backyard and to do this it had to be hoisted up over our sun deck – lots of breath holding!
You are all in my thoughts.

    Sincerely,
    Audrey

My deepest sympathy on the loss of your Mother.
I worked with Bari at the original 6 plastic surgeons office on Pembroke Street.
She was a wonderful co-worker and a great listener.
    Sincerely
    Frances

Having been neighbours and close friends for over 40 years. It has been a pleasure and privilege to have known the Robinson family and especially Barie. Her daughter Jennie deserves special recognition for her stalwart attention to her mother over the past few years.
May she rest in peace and continue cruising with Bill and Cansuelo.

“Auntie Bari”, a wonderful gift to everyone that knew her, even more so to her family. My heart aches along with Helen & Bruce, Doug and Jenn. As a nephew, Auntie Bari was like our second mother, especially each summer as she enriched our lives with humor, caring and that “special” understanding she had. I’m so thankful to have had both Bari & Bill as my aunt and uncle. We’ll miss her dearly, but rejoice in her life that made ours better. Thank you Auntie Bari! All my love to H&B, Doug and Jenn.
