A kind and gentle soul will be greatly missed by his family and special friend, Doreen. Music, especially strings/orchestra was a lifelong passion which he passed on to his students in Victoria Schools for 30 years. Donations in his memory may be made to the Victoria Civic Orchestra or The Land Conservancy. No service by request. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Bernard was my teacher beginning with the strings program at margaret jenkins elementary school grade six through grade 12. That should saint him for sure. I was never a great student but he always treated me respectfully and i enjoyed the few times we crossed passed many years later. I am now nearing 60 and music is still a great part of my life. The mandolin is where i find my hands these days but my violin still gets attention. Thank you Bernard.

  • Judy Brownoff

Bernard was a wonderful teacher. He taught my daughter at Northridge and she would talk how he had helped her. During municipal election time we had a few good discussions around where society was going. Rest well and I know your music has taken you home.

  • Bonnie Smith

Bernard left a musical legacy in so many different places in the Victoria area. The strings music program within Distrct 61 schools is part of his legacy, as are the music libraries of both the Civic Orchestra of Victoria and the strings library of School District 61. We are all so lucky to have had this special man to make music with us and encourage us. We will miss you at our concerts where we had the opportunity to continue to “talk stories.”

Bernard always put his students first. He was a great teacher of life lessons as well as orchestral etiquette. He encouraged us and took great interest in our ideas, and our strengths and weaknesses. I kept in touch with him over the years, visiting him when I could. I was amazed to learn he was a Master Rose Gardener. He had such a passion for roses and all things growing, and he would talk roses and bugs and cures for rose ailments, and it was wonderful. I will miss him. And his talks about roses, and his travels.

  • Gord Fish

He shared his passion and love for music with all his students and his enthusiasm and antics made it so much fun to learn. My favorite memories from the 1960’s are of watching his expressions as he conducted our concerts. A special man with a wonderful gift.
