    Terry, Sheila, Lynn and Family,

Bernice was one of my favourite ladies. I have many warm memories of her and Dino over the years – from first meeting them at Franco & Maria’s restaurant, to back-yard bbq’s at your home, Buccaneer Days, Esquimalt’s Celebration of Lights and many Saturday mornings cleaning house for them. We always had lots of good chats and laughs. Bernice and I could and did talk about anything and everything on those Saturdays. Even though I didn’t see her as often since moving out of Esquimalt, she remains a very dear person to me. My last visit with her was in the sunny corner visiting room in Royal Jubilee Hospital. She was sitting in her chair, bright-eyed, full of laughter and ‘holding court’ for those of us visiting. It struck me how peaceful she was, even knowing that her life was coming to an end. She had grace and grit. Please know you are all in my heart and thoughts as you go through this difficult time. You were such a support and joy to her – you did good work, loving her and helping her throughout the last few years especially. Rest in Peace Bernice. I know you and Dino are out there somewhere teasing each other and driving some fancy car with the top down, music on, hair blowing in the wind, heading for the nearest DQ!
