Bernice was born in London, Ontario to Arthur Alfred Wright who was born in Great Wakering, Essex, England, and Florence Emily Fitt, born in Norwich, Norfolk, England. Bernice was the eldest of four children: George (dcd. 1965), June (dcd. 2015) and Ken (dcd. 2023).
Bernice was married August 5, 1944 to Harold “Hal” Ennis who predeceased her in 2002. She was also predeceased by her son Robert “Bob” Ennis in 2015. Left to mourn her passing are her daughter Sherrie Haines (Dave) and daughter-in-law, Sue Ennis, five grandchildren (Peter, Anita, Timothy, Robyn, and Brian) and eight great-grandchildren (Zoe, Kai, Cameron, Brett, London, Hunter, Kestrel, and Felix). Bernice had the pleasure of being introduced to her GREAT GREAT GRANDSON, Clark, December 15, 2023.
Bernice had an astounding creative and artistic talent in many media. Family and friends benefited from her handmade wedding and special event dresses, wedding and birthday cakes, crocheted throws, baby blankets, upholstery, oil paintings, embroidery, and beaded jewellery. China painting was her more recent hobby for which she won many awards. For many years, she enjoyed hosting a weekly social china painting afternoon in her home for several painters.
One of her proudest moments was when she coached her son Bob’s lacrosse team to a B.C. Championship in 1960. Bernice was an avid five-pin bowler in her younger years. Bernice & Hal travelled extensively, ultimately reaching all fifty U.S. States and many countries in Europe, in addition to making annual trips to Hawaii. One of their favourite modes of transportation was their custom-designed homemade motor home, which they used for trips across North America and to their regular meet-ups at Island View Beach. Together they built and remodelled multiple homes in Victoria. Bernice and Hal were a unified couple who brought strength and love to their family and are finally together again.

Wayne Melvin I was sadden to see the obituary for my “Aunt Bernice”. I offer my sincere condolences to the entire Ennis/Haines clan. I will be sure to pass the sad news to the Melvin/Magoffin clan. Please let me know if there is any gathering planned to celebrate her life. I was fortunate to receive one of Bernice’s paintings when Mom passed away. It brings back many fond memories of my time growing up in Cordova Bay. Sending much love to all.

Pauleen Annetts and family Very sorry to hear this sad news. We first met Bernice and Hal when they stayed with us on a visit to Norwich, England. This was sometime around the early 1990s and Bernice was tracing her family tree at the time. We later had an ejoyable stay over in Canada with them and we kept in touch ever since.
Bernice was a remarkable lady and I treasure the artwork that we have from both her and Hal.

Susan Greathouse So sorry to hear of Bernice’s passing although she certainly lived a full and wonderful life. My association with Bernice was through our love of porcelain painting. She was a great supporter of this art form and her hosting of various porcelain events and a weekly painting session provided inspiration and fellowship to many. Bernice will be missed.

Our condolences to Sherrie, Anita, Brian and families on the passing of your Mon and Grandma. I remember her as an extremely talented and always busy lady. Her China painting and decorative work, whether sewing or craft etc was exceptional and her determination to remain independent into a great old age (99 years) was remarkable. Sherrie and Dave, Anita your care and assistance over many years was commendable. Well done. She will be missed.
