DAVIS, Beverley (nee McLean) passed away peacefully at Victoria Hospice on Monday, April 27, 2009. Our beautiful Babtsia fell asleep in the Lords arms comforted by her Ukrainian Orthodox Faith at the age of 68 years. Born in 1940 on October 24th in Portage La Prairie, she was predeceased by mother Rose Lezun McLean; father Aubray CL McLean; sister Lorraine Rowan. Survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Richard Davis (Winnipeg); lovingly remembered by son Barry McLean (Calgary); daughter Valarie Bakowski (Victoria); and husband Robert Bakowski; grandchildren Cody McLean, Melayna McLean, Kaitlin McLean, Anne Bakowski and John Bakowski. Beverley was also very close to Auntie Louise Tenzen (Winnipeg) and cousins Billy Didur (Tsawwassen) and Phylis Didur (Waterloo); Brian Tenzen (Winnipeg) and Linda Leonhart (Winnipeg), Sonya Jackson (England); loving mother-in-law Louise Davis (Houston); sister-in-laws Pamela Ratcliffe and Patty McLain (Houston) and nephew Will Rowan (Okotoks). Through her upbringing on the McLean farm in High Bluff, Manitoba, Beverley learned a wonderful work ethic and a love for the land. She will be remembered for being a compassionate nurse, teacher, a caring mother and grandmother whose hands were never idle through the years of dedication to her career and family. Beverley was well respected as a nurse educator and recipient of the Governor General Award, Mensa Member and artist. Always giving…and telling others, “please pass it on, you owe me nothing”, is what Beverley lived by. Special thanks to Dr. MacDougal, the doctors and nurses who cared for our wonderful Babtsia at the Victoria Hospice and special thanks to Val and Bob for making mom comfortable in the family home during her illness.

Prayers will be offered on Wednesday, April 29th at 7:00 pm in McCall Bros. Funeral Chapel, Johnson and Vancouver Street, Victoria, BC. A Funeral service will be held at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of St. George, 1100 Colville Road, Victoria, BC on Thursday, April 30th at 10:00 am, with Father Charles Baxter officiating. 3. To the Family
I have spent the past day reflecting on many aspects of RN training with Bev: her dedication to the nursing profession in general; spending many hours alone in her room down the hall in the nurses’ residence, studying – to allow weekend time at home with Barry, Val and then Rick; her maturity in the class was appreciated and valued as a role model. May the memories that each of you carry in more recent years help to sustain you at this difficult time. Our thoughts are with you in your more personal loss. – Lois

  7. To the family

Bev was my sister’s nurse when she was first diagnosed with diabetes as well when my grandma was in the Health Science Centre she was also there as my grandma’s nurse she was a very kind compassionate nurse who was concerned for her patients comfort and happiness Bev will be so missed.

  8. I received and e-mail today from a classmate and was very saddened to read of Bev’s passing. It is at times such as this that one wishes they would have been able to keep in touch with people we have known for so long but have been unable to see or visit. I am sure all the class of 70A send their sincere sympathy and when we gather in 2010 we will have our moments of silence to reflect on the past. It has been said by many that gals and guys who have graduated form the Vic have made their school of Nursing Proud. Am only sorry we didn’t get to visit with Bev at our previous reunions . Once again -please accept my deepest symnpathies and offer our thoughts and prayers to all the family—Connie J Gibson

  9. I was saddened to hear of the loss of Bev. whom I had the pleasure to work with for many years. Firstly as my clinical educator, and secondly as my co-worker in the Rehab. Spinal Cord clinic. Bev. was always happy to see you and made you feel comfortable in the workplace. We often shared stories of our mutual Ukranian Orthodox upbringing. Please accept my condelences on the passing of your wife, mother, and grandmother.

  10. Barry and Family:
Someone shared this quote with me when I lost my Dad ….
“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves memories no one can steal”
I hope the love and heartache you feel for your Babtsia and her loss become wonderful and cherished memories of her.
Your are in my thoughts and prayers … I am sincerely sorry for your loss.
    Shauna
