It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Beverly Joy Shelley on August 2, 2026.Born in Victoria, BC; she was the second daughter of Winnie and Eldred Williams, sister to Pat, Wendy, Val, Janet, and Keith. She was predeceased by her father Eldred and is survived by many extended family members.
Bev, from Victoria, and Eric Shelley, from Nova Scotia, met in 1977 and in 1981 they were married and began to build a life together. They joyfully welcomed two sons, Wesley and Nate and the family resided in Victoria, Metchosin, and eventually the Cowichan Valley. Bev was a devoted wife and mother who was tireless in her care for those she loved.
Bev was a valued employee wherever she worked. Her first job was at Goodwill Bottling in Victoria. After the boys had grown and the family had settled in the Cowichan Valley, Bev did administrative work with Top Shelf Feeds and then the Cowichan District Hospital until her retirement in 2023. Bev and Eric also built a business together, Beechwood Landscaping, Eric doing the hands-on work and Bev the accounting and office work.
Bev was a quiet and unassuming person but everyone who met her felt her warmth and experienced her kindness and generosity. She was a person of faith, an avid reader and loved to write, craft, draw, and paint. She enjoyed long walks on the trails around her farm, as well as cooking, and expressed her care for others through food. A deep thinker, and a wise woman, she will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
The family wishes to thank Bev’s family doctor Dr. Malherbe for his care and his advocacy and all of the medical and nursing staff that gave such wonderful care to Bev at the Cowichan District Hospital and the Royal Jubilee Hospital.
