June 29, 1959 - December 24, 2020

Blaine Maxwell passed away peacefully after a brave and courageous battle with cancer on December 24th 2020 in Victoria, British Columbia at age 61.

Blaine was born on June 29th 1959 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  He was predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Joyce, and his brother-in-law Carter Newson.  He was a loving husband , father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his wife of 37 years Beverly, daughter Sarah (Jeremy Stow) and son Bradley (Sarah), Campbell River;  granddaughter Georgia Stow and grandson Clayton Maxwell; brother Darrell (Annie) and sister Heather (Hal) West; mother and  father-in-law Steven and Debra Newson; nieces and nephews, Chad (Samantha) West, Ryan (Melissa) West, Jason (Elise), Lindsey (Lukas), Madaline and William Newson; sister-in-law Anita Newson and brother-in-law Daniel (Rebecca) Newson.  He will be dearly missed by Aunts, Uncles, cousins and many close friends from coast to coast.

Blaine spent his childhood in Upper Sackville, NS.  He attended Maxwell school in his early years before graduating from Sackville High.  Blaine married Beverly in 1983 in Bedford, NS.  It was at this time that he started his career in IT Service Management.  Blaine with Bev by his side, started the first of his adventures by heading off to Yellowknife, NWT.  Shortly after the birth of their first child, they returned to the Maritimes where they raised their family.  Blaine’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to open a nature store in Moncton, NB.  During this time, he completed his MBA from Université de Moncton. His adventurous spirit led Blaine to Victoria in 2015; closer to his children and grandchildren where he was able to enjoy the outdoors year-round.

Blaine was known for his warm spirit, kind and cheerful outlook.  He loved meeting new people, and had a genuine interest in chatting and learning about everyone. Blaine had a ceaseless curiosity about the world around him. He was an automotive enthusiast, loved exploring the outdoors, nature and travelling the world just as much as he enjoyed exploring close to home with his wife, children and grandchildren.

A Funeral Service for invited guests to attend in person was held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Saturday Jan 2, 2021 at 11:00 am. A recording of the service can be found below.

Sandy, Cailin, Brendan, Katie and I were reminiscing about our recollections of Blaine and his infectious enthusiasm for life. Whether it be: camping, nature, ringette, a “new” tractor or socializing a puppy; We recall him always being positive and keen for a new opportunity. He was always quick to laugh and ready with an encouraging word. He will be sorely missed. We are thinking of you all at this time

The news of Blaine’s passing came as a shock to me. He was the best boss I had ever worked for. I miss your smile, kindness, and friendship.

  4. I knew Blaine when he came to Yellowknife, way back when. Blaine was a relatively rookie in the IT world. A little wet behind the ears. But he was willing to learn, very supportive and always a pleasure to be around. The world was a little brighter whatever he did and wherever he was.

My condolences to Beverly and his entire family.

  5. Bev and family,

    You are in my prayers.

  6. Heather and family of Blaine, I am so sorry for your loss. Praying you will feel God’s presence as you grieve and work through your sad times.

  7. I miss Blaine, as I am sure everyone that knew Blaine feels the same. However, I will always have the many memories of our times together. Anytime that we got together, we laughed and laughed, sometimes to the point of tears. We acted like teenagers, played silly games, and always enjoyed a good drink. Blaine always reminded me to see the good in the world and to have a positive outlook on life. I am a better person for knowing him and I am happy to carry him in my heart for the rest of my life. Rest easy my friend.

We are sending love and thinking of you all at this difficult time .

  9. Dear Bev, Sarah, Bradley, grandchildren and family – We are so sorry to hear of Blaine’s passing. We remember times we spent together, at your place near Claude D. Taylor School in Riverview, the new house down towards Hillsborough and here at home. Lots of fun times come to mind, sledding, barbecues, picnics; and one particularly long walk in Fundy Park with the kids! Blaine had a great smile; his eyes would smile too. He was so cheerful! It was just so much fun to be with you all. We send our warmest condolences and hugs to all of you. Bev, if words could ease your sadness, we send the kindest ones your way.
    Our deepest sympathy,
    Anne and Louis Flanagan
